Is there a way to purchase gift cards in bulk to get a discount? I'm thinking since I have to fly home this year it might be a better idea to purchase everyone in the family gift cards for Christmas to Target or Amazon (something generic) instead of bulky gifts.

Thanks for your help! I'd like to get giftcards but if I can save some money or get a better deal that'd be great!

Have you checked out sites like plastic jungle? You can get small discounts on even one gift card.

Another tactic if you have the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred card is to buy the gift cards at your grocery store.  The AMEX gives you 6% cashback at grocery stores so you're essentially buying the cards at a 6% discount.

The card does carry an annual fee, but the grocery rewards alone more than offset the fee.  In my case, by simply using it for groceries my yearly cashback rate on the card works out to something like 4.8%.

Swapagift.com and Giftcard.com are two others to try out. One gives you cash for your cards, the other discounted cards. Benefits everyone :)

A lot of grocery stores have them, or you may just be able to buy them when you get home.  I think there are some that offer no fees, so you can buy them 1 for 1 (lots of mileage/points junkies do this to get airline miles on credit cards).

If you ever use the Discover More credit card, you get 5% cash back on rotating categories and 1% on everything else after $3000.  I then use the cash back to buy gift cards at a discount.  Like $20 for $25 to Bed, Bath, and Beyond or Bath and Body Works (they have many options, but those work for us as gifts for our famale family members).  Or $20 for 2 AMC movie tickets and 2 small popcorn coupons.  Our favorite is $45 for $50 at Chili's/Macarroni Grill.

You can also check to see if you get points on your atm/credit cards that can be redeemed for gift cards. I've redeemed some mypoints for gift cards and it went really smoothly, but I know not everyone has had that experience.

I use the Chase Freedom card. You can rack up points and get cash back, gift cards, and all sorts of other fun things. Every so often Chase offers gift cards for a discounted number of points. For example, I recently cashed out my points for 10% off Amazon.com cards. In the past I've saved up to 20% on Kohl's cards. If you can manage to pay off your credit card every month and not pay interest or late fees this may be a solution for you.

Yes, you are paying full price for the gift cards, but around Christmas-time, King Soopers offers 4x fuel points for gift card purchases.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon
