Hello everyone!
Does anyone have experience with traveling with pets? I'm going home to visit family for a week and found it would be cheaper to fly my dog (if he actually fits in the carrier that is, he's gotten a little bit chubby for a pug) via Southwest than it would be to board him at $40 a day for 7 (most likely 8 since I get in late) days.
Do you have any experience flying with pets? If they're stowed under a seat for a 4 hr. flight is that still really stressful on you and your pet? Do you have any tips on saving money if one chooses to board the animal locally?
I'm going to try and find a friend to watch him, but my normal buddy is going out of town during the same week! I'm also curious if flying with him will be wise if I want to stay with family longer than a week at Christmas.
Thanks!

It's totally ok* to let a chubby dog fast for 8 days. No problem. :)
*Not for any ethical or legal definition of ok.

Haha, he's on a diet. I adopted him in February and he's 7 so I have YEARS of bad eating habits to correct. He's doing much better now but still is a big-boned pug :)

Hi FrugalBeautiful!
I flew with my cat from Florida to Houston…and with a layover. She spent 7 hours in the Sherpa (yes…I bought my cat a sherpa:)) and was perfectly fine. I put her under the seat in front of me.

We have a 110 lb Newfoundland, Freya. I don't think we'll ever fly with her.

I've never flown with my dog, but I will say that it seems like boarding is expensive for you – it's ~7/day around here. I'd give it a whirl. Even if it sucks, you will know for sure never to do it again.
