I've used Quicken for about 8 years (haven't paid for an update in several years and it seems to work just fine). I want to switch to Mint because I like the app, but 1) I don't feel like taking the time yet to go through and make sure it categorizes expenses correctly and 2) I really dislike the "being advertised-to" feeling I get when I'm there. It's worse than TurboTax…
I might give it a real shot and try it for a few months. Would at least be worth it for the reviews I could generate for my blog.

I've tried Mint, Microsoft Money and a few apps for android and I never stuck with them. I recently started using YNAB and I love it! It's changed my spending already. I also keep some excel spreadsheets to lay out different calculations and future budgets.
I agree– I think the fact that so much is automated makes it easy to set it and forget all about it— YNAB does not do that, so you actually have to think about what you are doing with your money.

What does your bank offer? I have no idea what the norm is in the US but my bank has a pretty awesome spending tracking tool as part of its online banking system.

I use Mint.com as a quick reference but I have my own Financial Gameplan form that I use as well. It is more customized the way I would like it. Feel free to use it if you like.

I prefer to use the standard Microsoft excel spreadsheet, but I'am trying to to grips with Mint.com, since it is free after all ;)

Depending on how gnarly you wanted to drill down, but there is a new up and coming PF tool called http://www.Planwise.com
that helps with budgeting and future spending.
It differs from mint because it is actually forward looking rather than historical.

I've been using Excel for a while now, but just started with YNAB. I used to use MS Money, but since support for it ended, so did my interest in it. I moved over to Mint, but got annoyed with it. It seemed like every time I logged in, one or two of my accounts never would update. I would enter in my credentials and would get errors that Mint could not connect with my financial institution. It got to the point where I began questioning its worth. I then moved to Excel, but found myself getting lazy because it was too much work.
I like YNAB so far since it isn't as much work, but isn't 100% automated. I personally need to do some work with the programs so that I stay connected with my money. Too automated and I lose interest/focus. YNAB makes you think a little different at first, but once you get a hang of it, it's great!

I've been using Mint.com for over two years and I frickin' love it. Way better than me tracking everything with multiple spreadsheets that's for sure. Plus it's free which I like.

I've gotten the hang of Mint. Only because I didn't want to pay for a program is why I had so much patience for it!

Hi, people. My favorite is the one I've made myself http://pennykeep.com (online app, can be used from anywhere (phone, ipad,pc,mac)) (now promoting it )

Mint was nice when I used it but I stopped using it because it wouldn't link to some of my accounts and I had to recategorize some purchases because of how they were listed by the bank. I started my own spreadsheet and I think it's the best way to go because you can fully customize it yourself. Unfortunately mine has grown but I can't think of too much more stuff that I would absolutely need as of now so it should be good from here on. I would highly recommend making your own spreadsheet but some people are much more pressed for time that Mint would be the best. It's better to keep track, rather than try to do it one way and find that you can't ever keep up with it and then quit.
Best of luck in 2013!

I used to use Expensify for tracking my expenses. What I liked the most about it was that there was an Expensify app that I can install in my blackberry — and that was very handy.

Mint.com for me since I buy almost everything with debit or credit, and pay almost all my bills with credit too. It's free and easy to use and I've been using it for over two years now.
