I handle all of mine, he handles his. Our finances aren't combined, but even when they are I don't think we'll do a complete combine. I like handling my own finances – I equate it with independance.

My husband pays the bills through our joint checking account so I can see the money going out. I purchase all the food and clothing and gifts so I make far more purchases than my husband. I make all the purchases through our checking account so that he can see the money going out.

When I make these purchases, I code them into Excel so that they are categorically tracked. Also I have to split up some of the purchases. I might purchase misc. items and food at Target so I have to break up that purchase. Each year we have an annual budget so the purchases I make, have to fall in the budget.

We haven't had our annual budget meeting, but we just adjusted the food budget, and I built the clothing budget. I figured what we needed and just built the budget from there.

It has really worked well.

My boyfriend and I live together and I do all the finances right now. He gives me a set amount every month to cover bills and help out with the mortgage – and I tell him how much more to include for groceries for the month. When we get married, we're going to open a joint checking account but I'll still do the budgeting for us. He's just not that interested while it's becoming almost an obsession (in a good way I hope!) of mine.

In my family I handle all the finances.  My husband has no interest in personal finance.  He does help heavily in all other areas in our lives. Smile  So it all balances out.

I handle all of ours.  My wife just started working and never had any interest in that.  She doesn't even know what bills I pay or when they are due.

We started out with me, but I'm no good at telling her no when she wants to spend money but we are tight. So now she watches the money and knows if we really can't afford going out for dinner.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

We combined and I do the budgeting for us.  I do talk over our budget with him and make sure we are still on the same track.  So I do the majority of the handling but he helps.

I handle all of our finances, but I consult my wife before making a major financial decisions. Both of us should agree or else it will not be carried out. I think both should know how the family finances should be going.

First post here! Guess I'll just jump right in:

In our family (wife, 3 month old son, dog), I chose to handle the finances. I listened to a Dave Ramsey audiobook a few weeks before we got married and created an Excel spreadsheet for budgeting. Been doing it ever since (3 years). I have a passion for personal finance, so naturally my wife let me take the reigns and manage ours. I do need to create a master spreadsheet with accounts, username & passwords, and instructions on paying bills and such (gotta get on that soon!)

We have a monthly-ish budget meeting just before the start of every month to go over income and expenses, and to cover any 'out of the norm' expenses for the upcoming month. I track all of our spending in different categories, and we discuss any purchases that are 'out of budget' before spending. Really haven't had any fights about money since being married, which is pretty awesome.

Awesome forum, btw. Glad I found it Laugh

I am working on a few templates. My budget is much too complicated to do a blank handout at the moment, but I definitely want to make it a resource for people on here and my blog once I can put a little time into make a template with instructions.

I handle our household finances and bill paying. If my significant other did, we'd be living down by the river, as he is notoriously absent-minded with paying anything In a timely manner. Although he brings home the proverbial bacon, I reign in his spending, allocate an agreed-upon percentage into our joint savings, and generally manage / keep the coffers stocked well. Unleashing my well-meaning significant other is lethal to the pocketbook so he's grateful to be relieved of his money duties, or, as he puts it: 'that boring blah-blah financial $&@%' :P

Being in the financial industry, I have to control all of the finances. It would drive my crazy not to know where everything was. I looked at my fiances investment account statement the other day and realized that her firm had been charger her $2 per month for statements for the last 3 years. She had no idea and that's why I'm in charge of the money.

Right now, even though me and my BF live together, we still keep our finances separate. Every month we go over our joint bills and receipts and pay our equal share. It does take some organization but it works for us and we've never had a fight about money after about a year of doing it.Smile

We view handling the finances as a "team" effort. My wife and I have sat down and created a Financial Gameplan that works for both of us and then we review it about every month. It is one of the most unifying experiences, that is, my wife and I being on the same page financially.

I handle all the finances. My wife put me in charge of all her bills before we got married. Apparenty they stress her out a lot. We use 3 checking accounts mine, hers, and the joint account for househould expenses. At the begining of each month we put money into the joint account, however we do not put in equal amounts. I calculate a percentage based on our take home pay (I make adjustments according to who pays health insurance etc.) So, as it stands right now I put 55% of the money into the joint acount and my wife 45%. All my wife really cares about is how much "spending money" she for the month.
