Did a mini financial rant video over the weekend about Lebron James' new shoes. Originally set to be $315, Dominque Brown informed that they now offer a $180 version and a $270 version. Either way…..ridiculous.
Check out my rant: Lebron James New Shoes. Love any social shares you can do. :)

Agreed. Completely ridiculous. I'd take a pair of Starbury's over those any day of the week. ;-)

I have spent $3-500 on shoes, but would never spend more than $100 on athletic shoes. Athletic shoes will only last 1-2 years and it just isn't worth it. At least my regular shoes last forever!

I think the only way I'd ever wear $300 athletic shoes is if I were a professional athlete and my team paid for them.

Only if I was a professional basketball player. But then I'd probably have my own shoes and wouldn't need to pay Nike for a pair of Lebron's.
I just paid $45 for a pair of running shoes. And I used a $10 coupon book discount at Dick's to get them at that price. I don't like paying more than $65 for a pair of tennis shoes. It killed me to throw away a pair of leather sandals today that I bought 15 years ago.

Lena: I still have a pair of Teva sandals that I purchased the week before I got married. In 1996. So they're a little over 16 years old. :-)

Crazy. People are nuts. I know for my workboots, I wear them every day and need a very tough pair, and so when I buy new ones every couple years, they do cost ~$200. It's a lot, but I also wear them every. single. day. And they take a beating. But something tells me that the peopel buying these Lebron shoes aren't wearing them every day and they probably aren't taking a beating.

I paid $120 for a pair of Rockports almost 10 years ago and I still wear them today. In fact, this post inspired me to go ahead and polish them and I think look pretty good (need some gels I however) .
I definitely I got my money's worth.
$315 on a pair of basketball shoes, however, is a bit much for me. I have a tendency to forget to change shoes before cutting the grass; which would suck if I paid that much for them!

TB has a point – odds are people are buying them as collectors like those who buy vintage Air Jordans.
Unless I had a real specific need I wouldn't spend anywhere near that for shoes (like if I ran multiple triathlons or something).

There are people who'll buy them, they put it on the rack after thorough market research. The payment amount indicates that the buyers would not be interested in reading frugal blogs. Sad!

Ok, that's some serious mileage! I can't believe they lasted that long! While I just now threw mine away, I probably only wore them a handful of times in the past five years.

I actually used to refuse to spend over $50 on shoes. My last pair of athletic shoes cost around $80 but they are very comfortable and have lasted a couple of years. I'll probably replace them next spring and they'll become my outdoor (lawn cutting and such) shoes.

Lena: They don't get a whole lot of use at this point — they're now mostly reserved for trips to the lake. But yeah, they've held up surprisingly well.

When it comes to shoes for work, I'll be more inclined to spend money on quality that lasts. When it comes to athletic shoes, I'll go for good enough quality at a sale price. Simple as that. No, I wouldn't spend north of $100 for a pair of athletic shoes, regardless of the brand.

The most I''ve ever spent on a pair of shoes is £110! But that was over 5 years ago and I''m still wearing them today. So I would say they haven't been such a big investment.
But regarding Lebrons new sneakers I think I'de pass. Either that or take out insurance them! haha
+1'd :)

Wouldn't spend $.50 on a pair of basketball shoes. I am drooling over a pair of $300+ oxfords, though – have been for a really long time. One of these days…
