Hello Everyone!
I have a lot of research ahead of me for cell phone plans, but thought that someone here might be able to push me in the right direction. My grandparents' phone contract is up for renewal in November. They are EXTREMELY untech savvy, as in they only talk on their cell phone, but my grandmother is looking to branch out in th world of texting (go G-mama!).
They have huge financial restraints–they did not save for retirement and are living off of SS alone with lots of health issues. As such, I need to find them a really good deal. Currently they are paying $87 per month for two phones, with 450 minutes of talking time each. They would need new phones with bigger keys if at all possible, and with a texting plan.
Any thoughts on where I should look first for them? I am pretty sure they are AARP members, so they probably can receive a discount that way.
Thank you all so much!

I wish I could help you but what is available in Canada is so different from the US. I hope you can figure out some kind of solution.

AT&T just launched a $25 GoPhone plan with 250 minutes and unlimited text and picture messaging. Assuming they use their phones equally, that's $37 less per month with an additional 25 minutes for the two of them.
Keep in mind that with a Go Phone there are no rollover minutes. Also, I'm not sure if this $25 deal includes free calls to ATT customers or not.

Thanks Miss T!
Hi JT! That sounds on the right track. I think they have 450 minutes each though (but will need to look into that). Even so, perhaps if they paid an extra $10-$20 they could get the same amount of minutes as well and still pay a little less with an extra service. Thanks for letting me know!

I think verizon has a pretty cheap basic plan, but you've got to go back and look past all the data driven phones (They usually hide them in the back)

Your G-mama is very much more up to date than this grandma (me)! I literally know nothing about cell phones (other than everyone else seems to use them). So nice of you to do their research for them! Good luck.

We went with Kajeet for my son, but he's a bit younger than your grandparents though…
It's not a bad service, and it's month to month plan instead of a contract. For $19.99 (I hate when the do that, just say $20), it include 150 minutes, unlimited texting and has the option (for a fee) to use GPS to locate the phone (and your kids).
That AT &T option sounds pretty sweet that was mentioned earlier…
