Hi all,
For you video bloggers, which takes more time to create? A good blog post or a good video post? Just curious.

Talk about it! My girlfriend's a video editor, and it takes her days just to edit a 2 hour video.

2-hr video is a lot of video. That's like trying to edit a movie. If it only takes her days, i think that's pretty good. I would think a 2-hr video would take months to edit.

For me a blog post takes much longer. Primarily, because I'm not a strong writer.
To do a video post, it will usually take me about 10 minutes to film a 3-4 minute video. Maybe 3-4 minutes if I can do it in one take. To edit, it takes me about 30-45 minutes. I'll then upload the movie overnight.
To write a 750 word blog post can usually take me 1-2 hours and I can never get done in one sitting. Usually have to come back to it the next day and finish up. Sometimes multiple times.
Video editing, once you get the hang of it, isn't that bad. I use mostly iMovie and sometimes Camtasia.

Buck, I think video takes A LOT longer, at least if you create a script and want it to be useful. Especially, if you have to record it a few times to get it right. That said, I heard video is a good way to expand your reach to people that otherwise would not have found you.
Incidentally, I just took my first shot at this on a blog post a couple weeks ago. I used my webcam and filmed 5 minutes over and over again until I got it right…..I couldn't find any decent free editing software for Windows….so I wanted to get 5 minutes mistake free (I wouldn't say I succeeded, more like settled). Then it turned out to be the wrong format for youtube and took a while to realize I had to convert the files before uploading. So if you or anyone has a recommendation on free Microsoft tools to use please share them!

Buck, you always seem to start the most interesting threads. :)
I personally haven't ventured to the video post – but that's just because I don't want to take the time to fine tune my skills of video editing. I am just getting the hang of writing good posts (or what I consider good) in a short period of time.
This is the primary reason, for me personally, that I have focused on writing posts. If I can write 3 posts in 2 hours, why would I want to replace that with one video even if it would be more popular. Plus, I wonder how effective video posts are for SEO – (maybe that's not the purpose of video posts?)
Then again, if I could do videos like Jeff or Kevin at Thousandaire, I might change my position. haha.

Hi all,
Thanks for the feedback. Really helpful as always!
Hi Funancials,
No problem, are you going to do video posts soon? Good luck!
Hi Geoff,
Thanks for sharing. I use iMovie for editing. Not sure of a good Windows editor.
Hi Corey,
I try to start stimulating threads to keep up with blog machines like you, thanks!

Video always takes me longer too. I have to make sure I look presentable first before I can shoot the video, then I have to try to find the right angle w/ the light etc and then I can finally start recording but that can take several tries too!
My videos are not good but I just keep trying to do it and hope to get better at it as I go along!
