My post office only charges $48 every 6 months, I think that's pretty cheap.

Same here, about $50 bucks for 6 months. I've heard of people sharing boxes, but that just seems illegal to me, lol. That, and you wouldn't want someone taking your mail.

Thanks Mike and Timothy! Those are pretty reasonable rates.

I don't get a lot of mails so I have their smallest size 3X5(?) for $30 for 6 months. If I get any bigger package they hold it for me anyway, so this has been working out fine and the cheapest I could find.

Suba is correct! I use a small 3x5 and it is $30 every six months. If your mail overflows, they hold it for you and you just need to pick it up at the counter.

I didn't know about the package hold. I may need to move down to the smaller box just to save that extra money. In hindsight, what could I have expected them to do with the packages if they didn't fit? lol :)

I think I just paid $72 for 12 months but I got in before prices went up. This is for the smallest box.
I wondered if I needed a bigger box but the folks at the PO told me that they will hold larger packages. I think it's only a problem if you receive a lot of mail that they have to hold.
The price for me mean I don't have to give out my home address all the time. That's well worth it right there.

I will highlight my experiences about PO Boxes: I still had my mail stolen by a postal employee! I had ordered new checks, and they were mailed to my PO Box. I never received them, but someone had started writing those check numbers in the Los Angeles area. I filed a police report and a report with the Postal Inspector, because apparently a postal employee took them out of a sorting facility in the LA area!

I agree that the Post office is still the cheapest deal.

This is worth repeating. The size of your box doesn't really matter since they'll hold larger boxes. Don't get suckered–nab a small $30/6 months box and call it a day.
