I don't edit comments unless a commentor (not a word!) tells me about an error they made. I either approve or spam my comments (though tagging them as spam doesn't happen that often using Askimet.)

Eric–that is just unbelievable and totally unacceptable to me that in this day and age people still look down upon others who are not like them. CRAZY. It would drive me nuts to read comments like that!

Sometimes I edit typos.. if it's so glaring that it's bothering me! I delete spam blog comments and super generic comments like "wow that's a great post. Thanks for the info" that one spammer posts on 20 of my posts in one day.

Hey Eric,

Sounds like you got it handled.  Good for you.

Hey Amanda,

It is unbelievable that the world still has this kind of thinking.  Wonder if it will ever go away?

Hey Little House and Well Heeled Blog,

Thanks for your input.  Learned a lot.  I even had to edit some business links from some comments today.  Thanks again!

If a post is borderline spam, I'll delete the link, but leave the post.  That's the only editing I've ever done.

I do the same thing. I like to imagine the spammers going back later thinking they got one over on me only to realize their link is no longer there.

So far, in my infant state, I've found most people are very respectful… so I've not needed to edit the comments.  I'm just thrilled to have a conversation develop… so feel free to join the dialogue my friends!  I always click on my comments to go to their websites to contribute!

When I edit comments (which is rarely) I strip out a link that goes to a crap site from an otherwize fairly useful comment.

You should get the GASP plugin. It is so helpful! I was getting those same spammer comments until I installed it. Basically it just puts a simple check box under the comment form to verify that the commenter is human and not a bot.

I use it too and it rocks. I definitely recommend it.

I just switched to the GASP plugin from bad behavior.  I like the interface for the commenter.

It depends: if the commenter has left an insightful comment – or at least, something to indicate that they have actually READ the post – then I'll leave it in. But a lot of the time, when it looks someone is just copying&pasting the same line or two of sales drivel across a number of blog sites, I will whip out that link (or the entire comment) without compunction!

The way I see it, the quality of the content is a point of appeal for the visitors to my blog – and that goes for the comments section too.

I usually don't accept niche site comments so I don't have to worry about the links. I try to only accept comments from readers or fellow bloggers. You can usually tell based on the link that is provided.
