Hey All,

I am just wondering your opinion on keeping a sticky post up. I am currently hosting a giveaway at 20's Finances. For this reason, I am using a sticky post to keep the giveaway in the most visible spot.

But, my question is whether people who regularly visit my site will fail to see that I am still posting new material. In other words, will this hurt me because people will just see the giveaway post on the top area and fail to look beyond that?

I would appreciate any insight/feedback you can provide. Thanks,

Corey

I have the exact same question. I think people do, though. They just scroll down a bit. It's best to show your top 2 posts "above the fold" that way reader's won't be confused by a sticky post.

I use sticky articles when I run a promotion as well, and have thought about this.

1) Your subscribers know about your most recent articles through your regular email send-outs, so they won't be distracted by it.

2) Those that are visiting your site from Google won't see it because they'll be lead right to the post that comes up in the search engine

3) Those that see the sticky post are those that are typing in your web address (or are referred from another site). If they are typing in you site name, they most likely know that you update content often and will look past the sticky article. If they are referred from another site, they are most likely first time visitors and you really want them to see that promotion so they'll enter and subscribe.

All in all, I say stick with the sticky…. :)

As long as you have your latest article clearly, right below the sticky article it is fine. Some people have categories below the sticky article and the sticky article keeps changing. That is the format I find confusing. I had to really search for the latest article.  If you format is going to to be 1 sticky and all your latest posts below that, that should not be a problem at all.

I was thinking about sticky, but I show my full posts unlike Derek (snippet) so I think most people will just see the top sticky post.

I used the WWSD plugin instead. Let me know what you think about this set up.

I think this set up works as well. It is easy to notice the giveaway and see that you are posting new material.
