In your everyday life when you go out, how many do you think has blogs or websites? maybe 5 out of 10 people? I've seen blogs that are quite successful and was wondering if there are people like that among us, at our workplace(wait, they wouldn't be working at our workplace), at the mall maybe? Maybe 5 out of 10 is a little much because we'd all be rich right?Laugh

It probably depends on what group you're in, but I would say that 1 out of 10 or 1 out of 20 might be a good estimate. This includes people who just have a fun blog where they post pics of their children though.

I would say fewer than that even… Out of all family and friends that I have, I know of only 2 others that have a blog.  Also, with Facebook being as prominent as it is, it's almost an outlet that replaces a blog for a lot of people….they socialize, post pics, update their status, write notes, etc… For me it's not nearly enough and wouldn't reach enough people, but I bet it fulfills a similar need for some people.

I agree with Jacob and say 1/20 would be more like it. When I started my site, I knew of 1 person that ran a site of their own, but it was basically an online journal for family to read – nothing that was monetized. Now that my site is becoming successful, 2 of my family members have decided to jump on board and start some sites of their own!

I wish there were more people that had a site on the side because I really don't have anyone to talk with about mine…. nobody really understand what the heck I'm talking about when I bring it up.

Yeah, I only know my co-worker's wife who blogs about weddings and that's it.  Off subject, i don't want to create another post and spam. Do you guys check your Google Analytics more or your Host Account Stats? I think the Host Account stats are a lot more accurate, it's got EVERYTHING I love looking at it hehe.

Host account stats are significantly less accurate.  I assume you're looking at AWStats or similar?

As for the topic at hand…maybe 1/50 people at the most?  I don't live in an area where people are known for their computer skills, though.

I think it would be less than 1/20. Maybe 1/40. I don't know anyone else in my family/friends who have a blog that they are earning money and only 1 or 2 that blog strictly for pleasure.

I actually don't know anyone who has a blog personally. Most people I know think it is a waste of time :)

The answer depends on the specific question. A website for a small business is a necessity in many lines of work, so let's exclude that.

In terms of personal blogs or personal websites, I'd estimate somewhere less than 1%. In the US, 1% would put the total number at around 3 million (counting all ages). Seems too high to me, but it's an interesting question. I think that the answer might vary a lot by age group. For example, the % would likely be a lot higher among people in their 20's vs people in their 50's.

Personally, I don't know any friends/family with blogs, off the top of my head. I'd say the response to my blogging has been surprise, and a bit of curiosity. However, nobody has been like "Wow, that's GREAT!". I suspect that there's a view that it's a waste of time based on how much effort I put into it. Most people have been nice and not said anything like that to me, but I can sense that from a few people. Which means it's just their loss, as they don't know what they're missing:)

I would say probably much less than 1%. I never even heard of a blog until 2010! I only know of 3 people in my life that have blogs (2 of them because of my prodding).

I have two cousins, both writers, who also have blogs, though they are not in it to make money.  It is more a place to rant for one of them and a place to write about her love life for the other.  :)

I know of one other person only on account that a mutual friend told me about her blog. I know very few people who would be willing to put in the time commitment.

Hi Squirrelers!

I actually have had the opposite reaction from people–they think it is almost glamorous to own a blog and run it. I know I love it!

I have two friends in person that have websites; one is a fellow Yakezier and the other has a site that completely dominates and dwarfs mine with over 30,000 unique visits a month. I've also met Forest who is a great guy and I think has even larger websites!

However, this is the exception I think. Most of the people I know are mainly interested in watching TV or playing games after work, or going drinking with their coworkers, not doing nerdy stuff like working on websites.
