Haha I get somewhat of the same. Some friends just don't get it… and my girlfriend while supportive sometimes says "Blog blog blog!" ;) I guess it's to be expected though, as it seems more like a personal hobby than anything else.

The answer depends on the specific question. A website for a small business is a necessity in many lines of work, so let's exclude that.
In terms of personal blogs or personal websites, I'd estimate somewhere less than 1%. In the US, 1% would put the total number at around 3 million (counting all ages). Seems too high to me, but it's an interesting question. I think that the answer might vary a lot by age group. For example, the % would likely be a lot higher among people in their 20's vs people in their 50's.
Personally, I don't know any friends/family with blogs, off the top of my head. I'd say the response to my blogging has been surprise, and a bit of curiosity. However, nobody has been like "Wow, that's GREAT!". I suspect that there's a view that it's a waste of time based on how much effort I put into it. Most people have been nice and not said anything like that to me, but I can sense that from a few people. Which means it's just their loss, as they don't know what they're missing:)

To follow up on my comments earlier, I also think that the tepid response among a few people I know is that they probably see bloggers as "fringe" type people. It's hard for me to understand that, but that's the feeling I get from them. Plus, they seem surprised that I would do that, since they likely see me as being a mainstream, MBA-type person that doesn't fit their image of bloggers.
As an example, I brought up one PF-related topic with a cousin, and had mentioned a few of the responses I got in my blog's comments as alternative viewpoints. He kind of gave me a sideways look and said something to the effect of "yeah, but what kind of people actually go around and comment on blogs?!", all the while chuckling. I don't think it was a dig on me, but rather I think he assumed I held the same feeling on people who comment on blogs rather than run them.
Of course, I'm a very active commenter on many blogs, and really do value (and enjoy, respect) comments on my own blog. So clearly I see things way differently as I'm someone who enjoys this:)

I don't think I know anyone (outside of Yakezie) that has a blog. I think some people start one to share a vacation as it makes for a great record of all your experiences. These are short-lived.
It does take quite a bit of tweaking to get a blog looking the way you want it to. I don't think most people have the time to do this. Facebook is all most of us need to share our thoughts.

I know quite a few bloggers. I would guess 15 to 20% because there are a lot of blogs out there.

People ask me how to start a blog all the time. Most of them don't make it past a week.

My sister blogs with me at Two Savvy Sisters. Her husband has a blog about life as a professional truck driver. That's it for me.
