Hi!  I read somewhere that we are supposed to do an intro post, but I'm not sure where/what to do.  I'm such a horrible NOOB with this stuff so please forgive me if I'm wrong.

Let's see, about me. My name is Sandy.  I'm 32, have a very long term boyfriend, and live in New York.   I started my blog (yesiamcheap.com) after closing a business that pretty much wiped out my finances in the great recession. In fact, I'm paying those debts now.  I've been trying to drag myself up by the bootstraps, learning how to blog, trying to make some money on eBay and a website, oh and a full-time job all at once.  It's all overwhelming sometimes, and I wonder why I continue to do it.

Lately I've been feeling very discouraged and not posting the bare minimum of every other day that I promised myself.  It's tough to bare your life and I often feel as if I'm speaking to a wall, wondering if anyone else out there has my kind of crazy struggles.  Because of this my Alexa rank has tanked like nothing else.  It's horrific at 790,725.  That's 50% worse than my best rank.

My blog doesn't make me any money, and I really don't expect it to.  It was really started as a way for me to make myself accountable.  I've had an offer from a bigger blog to purchase my blog and keep me as a a pay-per-post writer, but after some consideration I turned it down.  It wasn't going to pay off any of my bills, so it wasn't worth it.

What else can I say but that I hope to make some friends in the financial blogging world and get out of debt.  I want to look back at this time and remember just what it is taking to get to a debt-free life so that I don't make a horrible mistake and "relapse".

After completion of the first Yakezie Challenge (obtaining a rank of <200,000 in 6 months), you'll be invited to write an introduction post to be inducted into the Yakezie Member network. We are challengers at the moment so put in the work, have fun, and you'll get there!

Hey Sandy, at this point you are enrolled in the first part of the challenge as Realm of Prosperity said. At this stage you just need to work at visting other Yakezie blogs, selflessly linking to them and in time they will come by and link back. Get yourself on Twitter, start interacting with us all and your Alexa will increase dramatically…. When it hits sub 200k you are into the next part of the challenge.

Please, please don't be discouraged. We all started with small blogs and little traffic but the ones of us that are doing the best just didn't giver up. Sometimes life will take over and you will be busy but get back as soon as you can….. You said that you don't expect to make any cash from your blog and in that case you probably won't! Turn that attitude around to think that you will make cash and I almost guarantee that you will. Even for small blogs like yours there are money making opportunities out there.

Keep working at it and make yourself known around here as much as possible.

What's your Twitter user name?

Hi!  Thanks for responding.  My Twitter name is @yesiamcheap.  I try to be consistent.  Thank you both for the tips and encouragement.  I lurk on your sites all the time but I guess that I should be interacting more.  Thanks again.

Hello Sandy,

Please don't be discouraged, we all have to start from somewhere! I started this challenge at the end of July and my ranking was 1,704,000, and today it is a little under 126,000. What Forest and Realm of Prosperity said is 100% correct. Just visit other Yakezie blogs and add intelligent comments, interact with people here and on Twitter and people will begin to regularly visit your site.

One thing that has helped me connect with people is that I post my favorite articles of the week every Monday – the authors have been so grateful and supportive! As far as the $, I'm still working on that – but the Yakezie has given me hope about that as well!

I will follow you on Twitter and subscribe to your RSS feed, and I'm sure others will as well.

See you around!

Sandy, I'm right there with you.  We'll go for it together.  I went from 150k to almost 300k after going thru a very busy time where I wasn't able to post or visit others much.  I'm back in the game now and at 215k – waiting for that push under 200k so I can get intro'd! Wink

If we've already made it under 200K (Thanks for the help, everyone!), what are the next steps? I'm working towards getting under 100K now, but is there something more I should be doing?

I haven't had as much time for guest posting recently, but I'm still retweeting, stumbling & visiting your sites.

Glad I could help.  I am working on a new brokerage relationship right now, so stay tuned to the advertising opportunity section.

I'm not seeing an advertising section? Is that here in the forums somewhere?

It is in the private member forums section.  Do you have access to that?  If not, be sure to sign up for a profile.

Looking forward to your intro since I'm sure you'll be under 100K very soon.

That is great motivation to know that you started at 1.7 million and have dropped so far so fast. Talk about motivation. You have my super excited! I hope you don't mind if I borrow that idea of doing a weekly round up of fellow Yakezie member blogs (will start with yours), but that is a great idea for content on the site and ways to link to other members and help them out as well.

Thank you for the insight. I should have been in this group months ago. A friend of mine told me about, but you know how it is when you think you know everything….you usually don't. LOL

Anyway, looking forward to growing and building with each of you!

I'm glad that you're motivated! This group is extremely helpful – not just with Alexa ranking and promotion, but even with tips and site design!

Oh, it's definitely not my original idea about doing a roundup, so please go for it!

I'm like you, I read about Yakezie probably in May, but waited around because I didn't think my site was "big" enough! I really regret it now.

Look forward to reading your articles!

The challenge mentioned an Intro post so here I am.

It is great encouragement reading all your posts.  Going from 1.7 million to under 200k seems impossible to me right now.

I am at about that 1.6 million and was considering just not doing this.

But I am going to work it and try to get to under 200k in 6months from today October 7, 2010.

Let's rock-n-roll!Smile

Welcome aboard James!  200,000 may seem unattainable right now but if you participate in the forums, include Yakezie bloggers in your link roundups, and take some time to get to know some of us you'll get there in no time.
