Money Counselor Accepts the Challenge! | Yakezie Reader Insights | Yakezie Forums

Hi all,

Just want to introduce myself, Kurt Fischer, and my blog. Today is Money Counselor's 5-month anniversary. Took me a while to build enough confidence, but I took on the Yakezie challenge March 13. I'm an American citizen/Canadian Permanent Resident living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. As I've lived 95% of my life in the U.S., that's the base of most of my knowledge and experience, so I write mainly for an American audience, though some topics of course are universal.

The main reason I took the challenge is the opportunity to interact with this great community. And I believe in the 'selflessly promote others' mantra. Maybe the biggest personal challenge I've felt in launching this enterprise is the feeling I'm working in a vacuum–no idea how the blog's doing or what sort of benchmarks to set. I am having a blast though, mainly because I've learned so much and that's what energizes me. But wow, this is a tough business! I really admire those who've succeeded. As a one-time Business Coach, I think I know at least one secret ingredient: Perseverance.

My aim with Money Counselor is, first, to have fun and keep learning, but secondly to monetize. I know I'm not yet close, but I'm interested to hear the opinions of the many experienced Yakezie bloggers about monetization.

Specifically: What milestone(s) would you suggest be reached to make worthwhile investing time soliciting advertisers and pursuing other ways to monetize?

Thanks so much. I can't wait until I feel I have some teensy kernel of 'wisdom' to impart to a future challenger!

Welcome aboard.  Just be active in others blogs and you will see immediate results.  It is a big community and I have met some great people through here.  I have yet to meet anyone in person  yet though.  Anyone in Central NY, and no Central NY is not anywhere outside NYC!!

Thanks Christopher, good advice. Yes, it would be great to have coffee with another local blogger or two on occasion.

I used to live in Central NY–and upstate NY.  It was always interesting trying to explain to people where I lived.  And welcome to the Challenge Kurt!

Thanks very much. Yeah, I spent much of my life in Illinois, deep in southern Illinois (Carbondale and Champaign/Urbana, to be exact). For most, Illinois consisted of 'Chicagoland' and "downstate," though downstate ran about 300 miles, north to south.

I actually lived in East Syracuse for a time and Marcellus for a little bit.
