Hi All Noob here,
I was wondering what are some realistic monthly goals I should set on my Alexa Ranking?
Progress so far:
10-1 – N/A
10-3 – 14,000,000
10-7 – 10,000,000
10-9 – 5,800,000
10-11 2,500,000
10-13- 1,650,000
10-14 – 1,300,000
My goal was simply to get into 1,000,00 by November. But, I have a feeling I will be well beyond that point on Nov 1st. So my questions are: What were you goals concerning the Yakezie challenge and Alexa Rank? What do you feel is a realistic Alexa ranking for me by November 1st? Thank you for reading! I really appreciate any guidance you can provide.

If you are absolutely set on establishing a goal, I would say 500,000 wouldn't be out of reach. Depending how much you put into it, that may even be too high. Then again, a goal is just something to shoot for. It doesn't have to be set in stone. It's also okay if you don't reach it or if you blow it out of the water, so to speak.
For example, I joined a month and a half ago. I started at 4+ million and set my goal for 400k for that first month. I ended up under 200k in a month, completely destroying my goal. That probably won't happen with everyone and consider myself lucky, but the moral of the story is that it doesn't matter too much.
As someone who is still somewhat of a newbie, I would suggest focusing on building relationships with others and the rest will come with it. By all means use alexa as a way to celebrate your success – it helps you stay engaged. But in the end, it is just a number. That's my two sense anyway…

Alexa ranking, especially within Yakezie, is a derivative of your participation. I wouldn't focus on Alexa, but rather what you can do to lower it.
Shoot for 5-10 good comments per day on other blogs and you'll EASILY drop several hundred thousand positions within a month.

Thx for the reply JT. The commenting shouldn't be a problem.

My secret isn't a secret actually… JT nailed it – commenting! Comment on other blogs and you will be surprised how well it works. Make sure that they are quality comments, not just "nice post."
Good luck. If you have any other questions, shoot me an email. I may be able to help you… and if not, i can probably direct you to someone else.

@ 20's.
I did notice you have a ton of comments out there. Often top 3 on a new post. I try to comment on atleast 10-15 a day and show link love via twitter. I guess not it's up to me to be consistent. Thank you for the advice

With the challenge you have 6 months to do it…which is probably twice as long than anyone has needed. I'd just relax and go with it. Alexa is quite an easy stat to drop…it's much harder to churn out quality content and grow traffic, IMO.

Don't focus on alexa too much. Worry more about traffic. But I'd say that getting under 600k in a month should be no problem.

I've just has a look at what this challenge is about.
Wow, do you guys seriously not know that Alexa ranking is easily fiddled? It's not easy to break the top 1000, but any 2,000,000 ranking site can get past 50K without a sweat. Try Googling for how to manipulate alexa rank!

Sure, you can get Alexa down, but you still need to participate in the forum and build relationship to get in Yakezie. Building relationship is another part of the challenge.

Online social networks are like any other. How do you make friends, or how do you be a good neighbor? Take an interest in others, reach out to them, help them any way you can. People like to help people they know and trust, and reciprocate any goodwill gestures. Be a community builder, and the community will build you.

And remember that it's very easy in the beginning to gain in the rankings. Once you get into the 200's and 100's it gets more difficult since you are approaching the more active sites on the list.
I wouldn't worry about your Alexa rank as much as building relationships with your readers and encouraging them to keep returning and participate in conversations. That's what it's all about anyway, right? What good is a million followers, friends, visits, etc, if they are only showing up then leaving?

The more you participate and interact, the lower your rank goes!

Congrats on your rank improvement. Having a good Alexa rank is great as a pitch to companies, but not all companies you work with (for ad space, affiliates, reviews, etc) consider it at all. I would say that you should continue working towards a rank, but don't make it your main focus or get disappointed if you don't make the mark.
Truly, numbers feel great but they can be a letdown…friends on the other hand are what will make blogging awesome when the stats aren't as great! :) Welcome to Yakezie, it's a great community and the Alexa rank is just a small smidge of what you'll get out of it!

Frugal Living came into the challenge on the upside of 700,000, with a goal of breaking the 500,000 mark by end of year. I think we might just do better than that, at the rate we're going… 661,483 and less than a month in!
With the other Yakezie behind you – and in selflessly promoting the work of others – realizing our goals is a lot less burdensome!

Everyone above nailed it. To add, make sure your comments add something. If you're the 1st person to comment and simply say "great post Butch!" people will scroll right passed you. If you share your perspective and experience on the topic, I'm more likely to follow you back to your site.

By the looks of it I should be about 500k at the start of November. What I learned in my 3 weeks of having a financial blog is that networking and promotion is just as important as having good content. The more networking I do the more visitors I get.

Exactly, early on is all about networking… later on the SE and direct traffic will increase on its own.

You are exactly right there. Networking is one of the best ways to get some sort of visibility and traffic. It is one of the things that the Yakezie network really excels at, so if you keep helping around here you should drop lower in no time.
