Hey guys,

Some of you might know I'm moving soon.  Cleaning house and finding tons of old receipts.  Yes, I'm a pack rat.  What do you guys do with them?  I'm trying to streamline myself in the new place.  Thanks! Laugh

Unless it's a tax writeoff, I trash them.

If you are worried about throwing out something important, then scan them. After that, burn them! If they aren't important just burn them right away!

Don't forget to save the ones you might need for warranty purposes :) Don't forget about the extended warranty offered via your credit card either!

I love to get rid of stuff. It feels really good. The only things I keep are big purchase receipts, tax deductible ones, and the things I might return. It's not much at all.

I do keep old bank statements and hardly ever refer to them.

what do you do with the old bank statements, and how long do you keep them?

Seven years is the statute of limitations, so 7 years sounds like long enough to hold onto them.  From what I've heard, an audit is just about the last thing you ever want to deal with.  Not because it's "aha, we got you!" but because you have to comb every record practically.

Barb,

Good question about bank statements.  I have tons of those, too.  It's so massive, I can't even begin to shred them as it would take forever.  Ugh Catch-22. Yell

JT,

Good point, do you have a super duper shredder I can borrow? Surprised

Kris,

You and me both!  My weapon of choice is the shredder though. Laugh
