Hey all,
One thing I have been lacking is including statistics in my posts. I'd like to start to include interesting statistics on various topics. Is there a reliable statistic website that I can use?
When you use stats, where do you get them from? Do you just google the topic and some variation of statistic? Or is there a go-to place.
Thanks!

A couple of times, I've done my own research, asking a response to my twitter & facebook followers. This does, however, have a limited reach. I've tried using google as well, although I often don't get a result. Usually, I'm looking for a particular statistic instead of just general numbers on a topic.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

In Canada we have a site called StatsCan, which collects stats from censuses and other sources. Quickly searching showed me that the US has this site: http://www.usa.gov/Topics/Refe…..Data.shtml
I usually look up stats myself, or only include them in writing if I recently came across it and found it interesting so I wrote on a topic pertaining to it. Hope this helps.

I just Google for it, using a few different related searches to try to find the most useful statistic.
It helps when you know exactly what stat you are looking for.

http://www.bls.gov is my go-to resource. But then again, it is run by our government so there's probably something better.

NationMaster.com is decent. Some categories are a little out of date but it offers a diverse range of categories both within country and internationally. It's fairly simple to find what you need and create charts, etc. Definitaly worth a look.

What statistics are you looking for? There are a number of government sites that provide stats from the Census to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and more.

I get stats from polls, twitter, facebook friends, etc… However whenever I do a more personal stat I do it via email.

I am with Barb, and always surprised with the amount if statistics the government keeps on us.

I've used bea.gov for economic stats and recently came across ycharts.com that has a huge amount of info for the visually inclined.

I just use well-known resources like Gallup Polls, AP polls, the Bureau of Labor Stats, Census.gov, etc.

Thanks everyone! These are great sites.
@Glen, I was looking for statistics in general. This includes labor stats, family budgeting, retirement, etc. It seems like a variety of these sites fit the need, but I will have to supplement them with google, from the sound of it.
@Smartwealth, oh well. It happens to the best of us. Thanks for trying! :)
@Liquid – that's an interesting site – I feel slightly less optimistic about changing the world though after looking at that site.
