Hey guys,
With all the great carnivals and roundups, how do you guys select your submission? Do you push your one single best post to all or do you spread them around? Monday post to Carnival 1. Wednesday post to Carvnival 2 and Friday post to a weekly roundup? I'm finally participating in carnivals and wondered how you veterans handle this.
So many questions today!

Mainly, I just try to pick the one that best fits the theme of the carnival. If the carnival is on investing or risk assessment, then I won't submit one on shopping at CVS. Also, if I have a post that was popular during the week, then I may just submit that to everywhere it fits.

Maybe I am nuts, but I think those buttons probably don't get used very often. I use sexy bookmarks but just use subtle 16x16 icons on a bar at the bottom of my posts. I can see in my stats that one of the buttons has been clicked once.. I assume it was a mistake. :)
A "tweet this" button is probably best.. the rest of them.. I don't know.. like "dig this" will require a pretty large number of clicks for it to have any meaning in my opinion.
Do you guys find these social media buttons actually add a lot of value (eg. bring in new visitors)?

I only submit one post to one carnival – so if I submit to 6 carnivals, that's 6 different posts. I submit to Best of Money first, then any topical ones that will need specific posts, then Carnival of Personal Finance with my favorite of what's left. I usually just find a free evening every 2-3 weeks and submit away for an hour. :-) And to be completely shameless, I will now submit to Totally Money first as soon as it is hosted by someone else. ;-)

Like Khaleef I look to fit my article to the carnival.
Also keep in mind some carnivals have rules about submitting to other carnivals.

I agree with Khaleef. The best one for the blog carnival's theme.

I post MWF. One post per carnival, so three carnivals.
I submit to Carnival of Personal Finance, Totally Money Carnival, and Festival of Frugality. If I space out on submitting one week, so I have 6 posts, I'll also submit to Carnival of Money Stories, Best of Money, and Carnival of Debt Reduction.
I don't hit BoM as often because it is crazy-competitive. I've only got 3 posts to share in an average week, so I try to guarantee I'll get as much exposure as possible.
I've got a GCal reminder to submit to carnivals every Friday.
Of these carnivals, the only ones I haven't hosted are TMC and CDR. For pure traffic, hosting beats submitting, but it's a long process. I probably spend 8-10 hours on hosting a carnival.

Thanks all! Really interesting stuff.
Jason, thanks for explaining the carnival hosting part, too. I'm finally getting into submitting, but hosting sounds like a ton of work. Kudos to you.

Just edit the post and change the text to be "wrong thread" or something.

Ha ha, Let me know if you want me to delete this, I think I saw you posted this over on the correct thread.
