Greetings everyone!

I have been blogging about 9 months now, and I am happy with where I am at I suppose.  (I didn't know what to expect, so no need to get upset!)

Anyway, I have read in many places that the first year is tough blogging, and then things just seem to take off.  Is this true?  Is it just that you have more posts so you get more search engine traffic?  Is there something magical about the first year, or is it just a generalization?

(Maybe Google will have updated their page rank by my one year anniversary??)

Thoughts from anyone?

I think that the first year is the toughest. I learned a lot over my first year of blogging. Traffic didn't increase dramatically but it did help me with Google. I started to get more organic traffic. Plus it helps build your authority with other sites. They know that your blog has been around for awhile. Congratulations!

Good question!  I do hope it gets a little less time consuming.  :-)

I really started to see things come together and started to generate revenue right about the one year mark.  But, I think it could have been sooner if I was more aggressive and knew more.

I would say around a year is when it started coming together for me too but I was in a different niche, Internet Marketing and blog tips mainly with some randomness thrown in. My frugal blog was started just after the year mark and quickly became my fave and most personal…. Ditched IM blogs and things now.

Vist me at Frugal Zeitgeist…. Frugal and Sustainable Living for the now…

Forest, what was your IM blog?  I wonder if I followed it at all.

I completely agree. I started blogging in January of this year, and just this month (December), things have started to take off for me! I think there is something magical about the one year mark! Laugh

Kris, the first year is the hardest since it takes a while for search engines to discover, index and position your blog.  Though I started MoneyCone about the same time as you, I have other blogs that are more than a year old which I hardly update yet get pretty decent organic traffic.

Kris, I think you are doing so great! I'm far behind though so it's nice to have everyone here to look up to.

Keep going Kris!  Sorry I'm just a few months in, but from my POV, you've done quite a lot in 9 months. Laugh Thanks again for your pointers regarding my website.  Still working on them. Smile

Thanks for the responses thus far everyone!   It is hard to find the perfect balance of putting enough time into your site to be somewhat successful, and not spending all your free time blogging!  (Or maybe that is a personal problem for me…)

Ummm…maybe it's a personal problem for both of us then, lol.  I knew it was becoming an issue when I told my parents not to visit me after work because I had blog email to check between 5-7pm, lol.  I am trying to tone it back now but it is so very addictive!  I want to see what people are saying, asking, offering, needing…my mind loves the speed and communication…yep, I'm an addict – and loving it!  :-)

I think if you keep going and building the momentum, eventually you hit a tipping point where the organic traffic really picks up.  But it can be challenging trying to keep up on everything without dropping something else.
