Hi all,

Just curious how all you great members and challengers view themselves.  Life has many obstacles.  Do you view yourself as an underdog or a favorite?  I've always embraced the underdog role.  Guess that's why all my videos lean toward a Rocky or a Karate Kid character.  Just a fun exercise to get to know everyone better.  Laugh

Depends on the sourroundings. At office to my boss I am underdog, to the people I lead I am favorite. With my real life friends, I am favorite too. While at blogging I soooo want to be a favorite but till date remaining as an underdog. At home I am a underpuppy for sure. Laugh

I'll take the underdog roll I suppose, it creates more motivation when you view things as an unbeatable challenge to overcome.

It's all probably relative though, depending on what the task or who the competition is.

Being a favorite means you have more to lose, because you have to meet expectations, but being an underdog means you have everything to gain, if you're just willing to put in more effort than the favorites.

It's like a game of pool, I've always been able to sink the crazy combination bank shots, but give me a straight clean shot to the corner, and it's suddenly the most difficult shot in the world.

I prefer the role of the underdog, that way it acts like an encouragement to move up society's ranks.

if you prefer underdog role, then even if there's scope to go up you will still want to remain underdog  always, all the time…come on, this is plain logic, what am I missing?

Creative answer!  I guess I was being to simplistic.  In my mind, if you're an underdog, you're almost an underdog in every situation.  Rocky in boxing, Rocky in a spelling bee, Rocky in a cooking contest, etc.

Agreed.  Underdog does have extra motivation and something to prove.  Never thought of favorite as having more to lose, guess this is true.  Like my previous comment, since you like the underdog role, are you the underdog in everything?  Pool, blogging, at work, etc?

I use it as encouragement, too.  Let's take something you are very good at, like investing.  Do you view yourself as an underdog there, too?

After selecting underdog or favorite, guess my follow up question, which you already answered, are you always the underdog or are there items where you consider yourself the favorite?

I try to behave like I'm the underdog, but it comes down to what it is and the circumstances I suppose. Sometimes you have advantages, sometimes you don't.

I think it's more of a mental game, as I always like to perform from the perspective that I have something more to learn, something more to improve, etc., so that I don't fall into self-satisfaction and self-defeat. I just don't want to become complacent in my perspective of things.

I prefer neither!  The underdog may fill a sympathetic role, but I don't identify with that role.  I have never been a favorite so I can not identify with that either.  I see myself as an active participant who gains respect from work ethic or results.  Maybe I just don't want to be pigeon holed!

Underdog.  If it's easy, then it's probably something not worth doing.

Hi Max,

I'm always looking to improve as well.  I wonder if there is another choice instead of underdog.  Lifetime student?

Hi KC,

It didn't surprise me that you would make your own choice.  Ironically you mentioned pidgeon holed.  Since life is so complicated with the endless scenarios and personality types, I tend to simplify things, maybe to a fault.  Black or white, right or wrong, underdog or favorite.  Perhaps this is a good reminder for me to appreciate the gray areas, too.  Thanks!

Hi JT,

You're right.  If it is super difficult, sometimes I wish it were easier.  But then I have to remind myself it wouldn't be worth doing.  Just me being lazy.  Thanks!

I would have to go for underdog. Certainly someone that needs to take advantage of everything and play a little bit cleverer in order to win rather than going toe to toe with. I have that attitude in most things in most sports and it probably spills over into real life and building websites a bit. I rarely find myself in a position as a favourite, so I would find it odd to have that attitude

Always. There will always be those better than me, because no one can be smarter than the market. And compared to the guys who have been doing this for decades, I certainly can't compare myself as their equal.

Underdog, all the way. It motivates me to be under estimated by others.

I have definitely been the underdog in my life however I have somehow made everything work out. I guess that is why my mom always called me 'the little engine that could'. I somehow perservere and reach my goal despite troubles along the way. Even when most things don't come easy I still find a way to move foreward.

Buck, I think you should start doing these as round ups on your blog. It would be a great way for readers to get to know us. I would love to help out if you wanted to start something.

Hi Henry,

I'm with you.  I feel like I need to work harder or smarter in most things.  This may have been a loaded question.  I can't imagine anyone coming out and saying, I feel like I'm a favorite.  Just wanted to delve into the minds of fellow underdogs.  Thanks!
