Motivated to blog I mean, I know a lot of us including myself gets burn out sometimes and just want to throw in the towels. However, I think it would be a total waste just to give up you know? all those times invested and money. So what do you guys do to stay motivated? Do you have to be in a certain state of mind? Go on a mini vacation? I know money is the number one thing that keeps you motivated, don't lie…but even that sometimes just doesn't do it when you feel so burned out right?

Number one is helping readers. Getting one meaningful reply from a reader about how I helped them do something is incredibly rewarding.

After that, I can't say the extra income is a de-motivator Laugh

From my past experience I learned that when I feel tired or burned out, I take a mini break. I don't put pressure on myself to come back in a day or two. I always say I will take as long as I need to recharge: a complete (no blogging, checking stats, emails, comments) break. Works like a charm!

MONEY

Just kidding.  As long as I have something to complain about, something I think others may want to learn more about, or something that I see people doing that I want to prevent other from doing, I think that's all the motivation I need.

Other than that, I can continue to use this line on women: "What, you never heard of me? I write a blog that's in the top 70k on Alexa and have been mentioned on the Consumerist and Yahoo.  I'm practically famous!" Cool

having readers -

it was easy to not write a post when I knew (Or thought I did) that no one was reading – it's great interacting with readers and trying to give them ideas about what I do and why.  it also leads to me learning new things, which is awesome.

My family. Plus they give me a lot of reason to blog whether they like it or not. :)

I think using MONEY as the main motivator is bad because you will have some dry months. I only made about $100 in Jan. so far and if I use that as a motivation, it's not going to work.

I'm agree with Jeff about readers. It's great to have readers interaction and it really keeps me going. I do learn new things quite often too.

For me – while money is nice and all – it's the challenge of making something successful. I also like the different aspects of blogging. I like looking at stats, trying to strategically plan out posts, make convincing arguments about finances, be recognized by major media, etc.

I know I'm pretty new to this so maybe I am not at a point of getting burned out but I'm doing this more for fun and a hobby than for money.  It is relaxing to me to do something outside of my normal expertise and just talk about life.

My main motivator is not money because let's face it, blogging doesn't pay that well for the hours put in (though on the other hand it can open a lot of doors and THAT can lead to a lot of money).

What really keeps me going is the community and all of the doors that it opens. I feel like I am actually making my own little dent in the world, even if it is very small; I feel a direct connection with all of you to a certain extent via blogging.

In no particular order:

1) Helping people. Today in the Lands End department of Sears I was writing down information for a sales associate about Ebates and purchasing discounted gift cards.

2) Learning. I learn a lot from other bloggers and I feel very motivated by other bloggers.

3) Yakezie community.

4) Being able to give back. I love to be able to generate money and then give some of it away on giveaways.

Little things always happen to keep me going. But underneath it all, is that I like learning, enabling learning and entertaining.

Sometimes it is very tempting to give up – and then my family kicks in. Literally! I have a son who writes, another one who is a poet, a third son who is just proud of his mum (he is still young but he may turn out to be another writer) and a husband who will never let me give up. Well, not without a good fight anyway!

The passion of creativity motivates me most.

The distant second is the power of knowing the facts that I can make some souls think and they come back for more.

#WINNING

I have had more luck getting girls from the DJing than the blogging. Maybe I have been targeting the wrong crowd? Is #FINCON12 the Match.com for finance bloggers?
