I've had my blog online for a year now and finally just realize that I don't have Facebook, was this a big mistake?
I never seem to get around and create a page for it but definately will. How powerful do you guys think Facebook is compare to all the other outlets?

I think Facebook has the potential to be very powerful. However, it's also the hardest. It's VERY difficult to get fans without bribery. If you just want numbers, you can buy those pretty easily, but if you actually want engaged fans who will comment and share your posts, thats tough to do. The few times that a post of mine has been shared multiple times on Facebook, I saw a TON of traffic.

The best social media format is the one that you will actually engage on. Numbers alone don't mean anything.

I couldn't agree more with what has been said already, but very much so with Glen… Social Media is just that – SOCIAL. If you are not engaging your audience, readers and visitor, then you might as well leave it alone. It also helps to "support" others in your social media group by reposts, comments etc.. It will bring followers, fans, interaction over time!

Agreed. This year I've made it a point to be more social on my FB fan page: ask question, share pictures, etc. And it's working!
Facebook is my #3 referrer of traffic. That didn't used to be the case. I used to just have my RSS feed automatically feed into my page: BIG mistake.
Now I upload a pic with a link to the post or at least add a brief intro with the link. It's also works well when you want to highlight older posts of yours.
Check out Pat Flynn's Facebook fanpage. He does a tremendous job of engaging his fans.

This is my personal opinion.
I don't think people really go to facebook looking for PF advice. But I guess if you build a good enough connection with your readers they will like you on fb so they no longer have to go to your blog directly to see the newest posts.
as Jeff stated above after we publish an article we normally write a little brief intro to it and drop in the link wich adds the image the the meta description.
I feel like this is a good way to get some engagement from your readers.

I think most of the topics we blog about can relate to a lot of people, so if one of you fan likes an article, the people in his network will see it too and curiosity will bring them to your site. right? I still haven't sign up to facebook yet so :)

I prefer Twitter to Facebook mainly because its easier to naturally interact with readers & other bloggers. I don't use my site's facebook page all that much because I have a real hard time coming up with something original to post on facebook. Where as Twitter it feels more natural to share a link to an article or a random thought or comment to engage people with.
I also find it's a lot harder to pick up followers on facebook than it is twitter. It could be because people are more selective with what they want showing up in their timeline, or it could just be because I concentrate on one more than the other

I make good money from FB. I started a new blog and I hear pinterest is good for my niche. I haven't seen that outcome yet.

I have a Facebook fan page, a Twitter account, Pinterest, and Google+. I spend a LOT of time on Twitter, and less so on the rest. My facebook page is newish, so I havent spent the time on it to make it worth it.. it takes a LOT of time. Like Andrea, when somebody shares my posts on Facebook I get a LOT of traffic from it.

I fully agree with you. I think twitter is by the far the best way to interact with readers and anyone else who is showing interest.

I unfortunately still don't have an opinion on this. I finally signed up for a Twitter account, even though I still can't get past that name! Facebook for Family Money Values has been out there for awhile but I've only had one interaction through it. That said, I don't spend any time at all on it….
I don't do any of the others, Google +, Reddit, Pintrest and etc… I haven't had time to explore yet.
Linked in I just use for personal stuff

I've definately gotten the most traffic from Twitter. I've gotten very little response with Facebook and almost none with Google+

Facebook is my biggest social traffic source, followed by Twitter. I occasionally get a big spike from Reddit as well, but most of those visits are not sticky.

I don't have Facebook because I don't like it. Regardless of how many articles I read that tell me to be on there, I probably never will.
That being said, Twitter is a good driver of traffic.
I prefer Twitter and really like almost everything about it, especially when combined with a 3rd party dashboard like Gremln or Hootsuite.
As someone said, the best platform is the one you will use. I just don't feel like I have room in my life for another platform.

I agree that Facebook is the hardest, but can see the benefit of the hard work. I haven't focused much on it however. I've been focused on Twitter and Google+. I tried StumblUpon for a little while, but never saw any benefit from it, so I changed my focus.

I would say Twitter for sure, especially over the long run. There are still a lot of people who don't use Twitter, though, so facebook presence is also key. The people who have interacted the most with me on Facebook are the ones who don't have Twitter. As far as traffic it's about an even split between Facebook and Twitter, though I do see Twitter pulling ahead over time.

Does anyone see much value in Google +? I've pretty much given up on it as I don't know a single person that is active on it.

I see the biggest potential in Twitter only because I've seen ridiculous tweets go viral and receive attention from some crazed CEOs/celebrities. The power of Twitter still astounds me. (I guess I 'should' learn how to use it finally.)
P.S. just starting to learn Twitter. It's really fun to see my fellow bloggers sharing information in real time.

Twitter, definitely. I find it the most fun and the most interactive. I can't stand FB and Google+ is just so… quiet. I wonder if it will every really catch on.
