Last year I joined a social networking fitness site called fitocracy. (Not an affiliate, just think it's a great idea.) They've made a lot of improvements from their original beta and as I've started to work harder on my health and wellness, I'm using it more again. It gives you points for, and helps you track your exercise and activities, and allows you to give and receive "props" from people in your groups and who follow you.

Today, I realized it reminds me a lot of the Yakezie group, people helping each other to be better and do better. So I'm putting out an invite to everyone here. I've started a group there called "YakezieFit." I thought it would be nice if we could get enough of us doing that, it would encourage us to do more than sit at our computers and help us reach our fitness goals.

Since it's still in beta you need an invitation link: http://ftcy.co/odcKDt

I hope you'll all join me so we can help each other reach our fitness goals for this year.

I lost 1 pound this week. I only need 11 in total and to be honest I can get away with 6 but I am on my way.  I will check it out.

By the way I tried to reply to your comment on your site and it said type in a password. There was nothing there. This was my response.

Hey you can recommend the menu and I can eat. I don't eat meat but I eat everything. I am also on a diet but who isn't? I only need 11 lbs but I can live with 6.  Any suggestions?

Yeah, that link is for a social fitness site called fitocracy. It's still in beta so the password was if you wanted to sign up for "fitocracy." (Unless there's a link on the mealplanrescue.com site that's broken, in which case, please direct me to that.)

I don't have a meal plan specific to weight loss, but I have found that a significant component of diet when you're trying to lose weight is when you eat, and how often you do so.

I don't know if you have a crazy awesome blender like a blendtec or a vitamix, but one of the best things my husband and I have been doing is starting the morning off with a celery juice blend. For our blendtec, I toss in two to three stalks of celery, a cup and a half of grapes, and a cup of water and blend on whole juice setting. Celery is very dense and fibrous so it starts your metabolism quickly for the day; it's also considered to be a net loss food, where the calories to digest it are more than the calories of the celery. Lastly, it is also known to have anti-inflammatory properties so it's excellent for when you're starting a workout routine. Just adding this into our routine, I fit into my skinny pants in two weeks.

What sort of non-meat eater are you? Vegan, Lacto-ovo?

For me, the best recipe is always to move more. If you don;t do this yet, take a brisk walk, four times a week, an hour each or so. Especially walking up hill does wonders. And I just try to eat moderately; just a little bit less of everything than normal My target for January was to lose 3 kilos (6.6 pounds). I lost 2 kilos so far(4.4 pounds). I plan to do the same in February and I'll the happiest camper around.

Anyone doing the Slow Carb Diet? I'm starting today.

I don't need to lose weight, just eat better. Trying to eliminate grain and starch for one month to see how I feel.

I'm completely agree, and the key word is brisk; you have to get your heart rate pumping. Also, people who have been very active before (like, ahem, professional dancers) may have to push themselves a bit harder or reduce their portion intake once they stop, otherwise they'll suffer the "Spring Training Effect." Football players usually look awful when they head into spring training compared to the middle of the year because they aren't as active in the off season, but don't change their eating habits to match.

Eliminate grain? From what I've read of the slow carb diet it says eliminate white grains or things that can become white. While that eliminates a lot, there are grains that aren't in that category. In our house we don't eat a lot of grains, but we do occasionally eat brown rice, stone ground whole wheat flour bread, and similar.

I don't usually like traditional diets because it usually takes a few months before something really bad is identified from them, but Slow Carb just seems to combine an elimination of processed foods and high sugar items while weighing on portion control.

When I write meal plans I do try to include a reasonable amount of grains, but I know that everyone is going to make the choice at the grocery store to eat the whole wheat or the white bread. I refuse to include processed foods though, and only provide canned goods as an emergency option because I don't believe that's an optimal or the least expensive way to eat.

I have just tried to do more exercise.  I love to eat, so to counter that I have to move more, I work on the third floor so I take the stairs now about 4 or 5 times a day, and I try to work out at home more often.

You are so right… I just lost a pound and more to come. I can't keep saying my kids are holding me back much longer. I mean I can but even I am getting tired of saying it.

I think I'm late to the party, but I lost 22 lbs since August. @jaicatalano – special diets don't work unless you stick to them perfectly and then I don't really think they are sustainable.  You can eat whatever you want and lose weight, you just have to eat within your daily calorie limit. Mine was 1300 to lose a pound a week, with 4 days a week of 45 minute exercise. Yours will be different based on your height, gender, etc. I'm short so you'll be lucky and be able to eat more than me ;)

I lost the weight by just cutting down on what I ate – I still had ice cream frequently, I just ate less of whatever else. I also worked out. I'm still trying to lose, and it's become a bit of a losing battle while I'm moving, working, school, etc. But my recommendation? Grab yourself a notebook or install myfitnesspal on your smart phone and track what you eat. it helped me TONS

We have upped our exercise this last year. We get up 4-5 mornings a week before work and work out. It is great. We have both improved our fitness and lost weight. I also went vegetarian and have had huge health benefits as a result.

It's so exciting to hear that everything's really working on improving their health. Personally I've been worrying since I sit so much of the day, but getting moving is top on my "to do."

Van Beek, I always thought it would be easy to lose weight in Thailand because it's always like a sauna. Is that not true?

Fitocracy might be a great app for you then. It takes into account making good decisions (like taking the stairs) along with the hardcore exercisers. I'll give you props! :)

That's great! You are welcome to join the YakezieFit Group (currently party of 1). I see swimsuit season approaching like the grim reaper in a horror movie so I'm trying to get a move on.

If you wrap them around your ankles while you walk, it's a good workout. Wink
