I think I'm late to the party, but I lost 22 lbs since August. @jaicatalano – special diets don't work unless you stick to them perfectly and then I don't really think they are sustainable.  You can eat whatever you want and lose weight, you just have to eat within your daily calorie limit. Mine was 1300 to lose a pound a week, with 4 days a week of 45 minute exercise. Yours will be different based on your height, gender, etc. I'm short so you'll be lucky and be able to eat more than me ;)

I lost the weight by just cutting down on what I ate – I still had ice cream frequently, I just ate less of whatever else. I also worked out. I'm still trying to lose, and it's become a bit of a losing battle while I'm moving, working, school, etc. But my recommendation? Grab yourself a notebook or install myfitnesspal on your smart phone and track what you eat. it helped me TONS

That's amazing Daisy! I agree that special diets are not the way to go, just eating better and smarter is three quarters of the battle.

We have upped our exercise this last year. We get up 4-5 mornings a week before work and work out. It is great. We have both improved our fitness and lost weight. I also went vegetarian and have had huge health benefits as a result.

I admire you. I keep trying to get up to work out in the morning, but I am so much not a morning person. We're exploring vegetarianism in this house as well, but I have a hard time mixing it up for the husband. We should trade recipes!

I could definitely use more exercise. One thing I've been doing lately is fasting for a few days. Anyone ever do it?? Some people say it's not healthy, but it cleans out my system and I feel better afterward.

Fasting is very good if done right. I've never gone more than 24 hours though. And I ate a cookie afterward. How do you last more than a day? Do you drink water or juice at all?

I've been using MyFitnessPal It primarily is a calorie counter, but has some social features as well. Since signing up 2-3 months ago and have lost 10lbs so far.  Just 10 more away from my ultimate goal of 170.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

ADP-

The 1st 24hrs is the toughest. I usually shoot for 3 days with only water.

Last June I stopped eating sugar, pasta and rice of any kind. I may have a slice or two of homemade wholewheat bread during the week, but that's it. Within 7 months I dropped 30 pounds.

If I had to choose between being overweight and eating low-carb, I think I'd stick with being overweight. I've recently hit a plateau in my weight loss. Hoping it doesn't come down to this.

The only reason I get hesitant about fasting is the diet crazies who want to live on lemon juice and cayenne pepper for a week. There is smart, healthy fasting that can be done under a nutritionist's direction, and sometimes that can be a great idea.

Thanks for joining. You'll find it's really encouraging and exhilarating to start racking up points, and they happen really fast initially to give you that boost. It's like a fitness snowball.

Yeah, we avoid eating processed foods. I don't believe in it for us or our meal planning clients, so we don't have a lot of it here. Also, once I started making my own bread, it's hard to eat store bread.

I have definitely thought about fasting to get rid of some toxins and such but have never tried it. Need to do more research.

Andi–Have you ever tried Artisan Breads in 5 Minutes a Day? I love it! So easy, and great tasting bread.

I haven't, but I'll check that out. Lately I got lazy because I've been spoiled. Since my sister works at a Great Harvest Bakery, she hooked me up with Dakota wheat, which is an incredible whole wheat/seed bread. Could live off that.
