If you are interested, I wrote my longest post ever on why cars are destroying our society… I think it's an important conversation to have.

I'm going to read it, and before I do…. it sounds like I'm going to agree :)

Think about it.  Apple is the largest company in the world. They don't make anything that society "needs".  We need to simplify things.   Why on earth must we travel 30-50 miles to get to work?  This is part of the problem.  I agree with your point of view.  Cars are destroying society.  I haven't read the article yet, but I think cars are a huge cause of the stress in our lives.

Nice post, I went over and commented. :) I agree with shortroadto, we can end up in a endless cycle where we build a highway, people move further away, requiring the highway to be expanded which starts the cycle again. It ends up wasting a lot of resources. I don't think that cars are destroying our lives, but some adjustments need to be made. Unfortunately, a lot of the problems are political. You can't just go and slap tolls on roads to more fairly price usage, because people will revolt against that.

Great point – it is only part of the problem…

Thanks for visiting, everyone. :)

Unfortunately I live in an area where vehicles are villified in favor of cyclists so I'm "motor-sensitive." But I did appreciate a lot of points in your article. I think in the end it all comes down to a want vs. a need. We joke that we have the "greenest car" on the block because my husband is restoring a 1969 Datsun wagon. All the parts are cobbled from junkyards and craigslist and it gets 23 miles to the gallon. I'm always going to be a car person, but I'll also try to be smart about it.

Fair enough. There's no easy way to set standards, I'm just raising some concerns. Thanks for sharing your experience.
