I noticed today that I had a significant bump on Wisebread, but not in traffic or on Alexa. Then, I noticed the mom blogger I've been tagging behind for months is no where near me. So, I search, and she's not on the list at all. Nor are a few other "deal blogs" that tend to rank in the top few.
Though I would never call them personal finance blogs myself, I was surprised to see them disappear. Did anyone else notice this or have any insight? I'm just curious.

Good eye. Looks like there are only 414 blogs on the list now, but I remember not long ago there was over 600. Maybe they're doing some housecleaning.

I was missing for about 2 days last week, when I was at about 150. Then I reappeared at about 110 or so. However, if you searched for my blog it showed up with all of the rankings in tact. And I have noticed a couple of active blogs missing as well!

I was missing about a week ago. Sent them an email and turns out there was some glitch in the software and some of the sites disappeared. They added me right back in. Could be all related.

I ran into that glitch, too. My blog was missing for about a day or two, but they fixed it quickly. I hope this new updated list is accurate going forward. Those mommy blog deal type sites can hardly be called personal finance blogs. They're valuable and helpful, but they almost all tend to repeat each other. And I don't mean the typical blog echo chamber…I mean nearly word for word posts. If I were making a list of top PF blogs, I don't think I'd include those.

For the record, I completely agree with you. However, I am also a mommy blog deal site. I just go about it a little differently. If I can't connect with a deal & find a way to write about it with personality, it just doesn't go on my site.

I think there's a clear line between what you do, Heather, and what some of those sites do. I've never really thought of your site as a "blog deal" site. And that's because you add to it. Many of them that I would classify that way merely post the deals of the day and leave it at that. There's never any other content, and certainly not any personality added to any of the content.

I think the glitch is not fixed yet. GRS is missing! They can't have removed it on purpose. So I think a lot of sites will come back after they fix the glitch.

Oh, I wasn't commenting on your site Heather so I hope it didn't come out that way. And I didn't mean to sound really harsh, but I just don't think they're a good fit. They offer something valuable – but only cover an extremely narrow part of personal finance. I think it's fine for a PF site to focus on one topic in particular (like frugality, for instance). But they need to talk about other topics as well and include a personal touch in my opinion. Anyway, glad to have you in the Yakezie Network!
@Suba: I think you're right. There's no way they'd take GRS out on purpose. Still, it was nice to see my site go up about 20 spots even if only for a little while!!! :)

Thanks, Shane! And, no, Paul, I didn't take it that way at all. I just wanted to point out that not all mommy bloggers are created equal. ;) I get a little sensitive about that title, what with all the negative associations.

I had an e-mail conversation with the CTO for Wise Bread about this. It has been corrected, but will take a few days for the stats to catch up. I found I was not there, and that led to the programmers finding a bug from a change they recently made on the back end.

Anybody have any idea why Consumerist is #1? I've never seen an update.

I don't know, Sam…but that's another one that I barely consider a PF blog. I know it's big and popular, but I don't read it. They post too often and too much of it is useless to me.

My blog disappeared off the list a few weeks back – only to reappear, just as mysteriously, a few days later. I don't know what is causing this ongoing glitch, but it is certainly very strange!

I'd bet that Consumerist is there because of its sheer size and the amount of visitors it gets. They're not evaluating content but just the number, I guess. I see lots of blogs on there that have not been updated in almost a year, and some blogs that do not create their own content. Ten points to the Yakezie for original content.
