friends,
not long ago I wrote about my notes from my adsense in your city visit where i had the opportunity to do a 1 on 1 with a google adsense rep. one thing i did not mention in that post/notes is a strategy i have been utilizing for some time now that is resulting in CTR percentages that are hard to believe.
if you have implemented search functions with adsense, you must be already seeing CTRs in the 20-50% range, but this strategy that i have been utilizing averages roughly 75% in CTR for me across several of my niche sites. i had stopped this for sometime but recently started it again after getting google's buy in.
i have documented exactly how i go about doing this and why it is so effective. you can read about it here:
what i am more interested in learning from you however is, what is it that you are doing that is resulting in higher than average CTRs for you? i am not referring to short term results that deviate back to the "norm". i am interested in learning about approaches that have permanently resulted in higher adsense earnings/CTR for you.

That's pretty impressive, but I don't get anywhere near 20% CTR with search. It probably doesn't help that my search page accounts for less than 1% off my total traffic.

Thanks for that. I'm not sure what happened. I think I may have disabled it when I was working on something and forgot to enable it again. BTW, do you have any suggestions for removing the right column of ads from my search results page? It doesn't play nice with my theme.

If I remember correctly (I can't use AdSense on my blog), the option is in the AS site when you select your design options. I believe that you can specify from a few different layouts how/where the sponsored ads will appear.

haha….I just looked, and my site's overall CTR is 0.33% (no, that's no typo! haha). I must be doing something wrong. :)
I have Adsense included to display when people do searches using the search bar on my site. Is this different than the search function you mentioned above?

very strange guys. when people search, they are looking for specific info, and contextual ads are meant to serve just that. very perplexing. the only thing I can conclude from this is that your site provides the content a user is searching for, thus they click on your internal links to land on that page rather than a contextual ad.
