Hey there gang. I was wondering if anyone knew how to create a forum for a website (kind of like this Cool ). I am in the extreme beginning stages of creating my new niche site (nothing is there yet, I haven't even started designing or posting yet). I will be posting a combination of videos and blogs within the site to show people how to make their own bait for different types of fishing. I thought a forum would do very nice with this site and would like to create a great forum to add more value to the site.

Any advice would be supurb! Thanks in advance.

I have Hostgator and there is an easy one click install for a forum. I built one in about ten seconds for another site. It takes some time to customize though. I suggest BB Press.

This forum is run with simple press; i have installed it on another site and it is fairly intuitive. (FYI – if you scroll down, you will see a link to simple press just above the Yakezie footer).

I use Hostgater too and their one click install for bulletin boards is great and super easy! I found that I quickly overwhelmed the shared server though and needed to move the site to its own server.

This isn't very related to the technical parts of building a forum, but make sure you have enough traffic that can sustain a community. Forums are really, really difficult to start from scratch. No one wants to sign up unless there is active discussion – it's one of the worst catch 22s on the web.

So be sure to seed it with as much content as you can, especially in the early days. Once forums take off, though, they really take off without any additional work on your part. Best of luck!

Eric & Hank, I have host gator, and have been searching within my cpanel for a forum without success. I will look for bulletins, (thanks for the heads up Hank).

Corey, I will eventually try the Simple Press Format (just don't have any extra funds at the moment), if you don't mind me asking, what is the url for the site you use the simple press on?

JT, that's some really good info. I plan on using this on a new Niche Site. I'm not really looking for people to start up immeadiately, but thought it would be a great way to get all the answers answered. I may wait to implement it later on once I start getting some more traffic. I haven't even posted any content yet (that's how new it is).

BB Press is in the Hostgator CPanel. Look under quick install.
