Extinct Carnivals?

I have been submitting a few posts to carnivals on blogcarnivalhq and there are a few that have never published my posts, which is fine, but that I also never see hosted around.

I have seen all the carnivals listed on bloggercarnivals being hosted at one time or another by a known blogger, or acknowledged in roundups.

Do you know if blogcarnivalhq still has submission forms for non existing carnivals?

Good question Pauline!

I think that for the most part, blogcarnivalhq is up to date. The only carnival I know that is not active on their list at the moment is Best of Money.

I also sort of share your thoughts on carnivals. It seems like I submit to quite a few of them, but don't get included (or maybe my google alerts aren't picking them up). I need to go through my submissions and make sure that they are all active.

I know that a lot of people are sort of in "flux" right now about their opinion of carnivals and how it relates to Google's penalties from last year.

What do you mean, being penalized or categorized as a link farm for hosting carnivals?

Another good question: I haven't heard a definite answer on this (maybe someone else out there can provide insight).

I just have heard through my interactions over the past few months that some bloggers right now are afraid they will be penalized by google for unnatural linking by participating in or hosting carnivals.

Personally, I plan to continue participating in carnivals until I hear a definitive report. So, I would be interested in hearing what people have to say!

I've been reviewing my submissions. It appears the Financial Simplicity Carnival is not active right now (at least as far as I can tell). I submitted a question about it to the carnival organizer, Step Away from the Mall.

How do you review your submissions? I always get a "your post has been submitted successfully" when I click send, including to the two you mention. Thank you for your help!

Basically, finding the most recent live edition of the carnival that you submitted to (either through the carnival site or google search) and seeing whether or not your article is included.

For me, I check the carnival when live to make sure my post was included.  There are random occasions when the host doesn't include a submission for whatever reason.  Even if a post was submitted successfully the host may have chosen not to include it.  Also, once can simply check to see if the carnival was actually posted in the first place!

The Money Mail recently compiled a list of active carnivals in the PF sphere. Personal Finance Carnivals – Ultimate List

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Good questions Pauline! I personally don't use the HQ site anymore as the confirm email they send includes no link to who is hosting it or when it's going live. I use BlogCarnival.com and BloggerCarnivals.com exclusively now as they send emails showing who is hosting it and the date it's going live. I know even then that it's only about 80-90% accurate, in my experience, but it makes it much easier to track down what Carnivals I am in as a lot of them don't send a pingback for one reason or another.

Edward, do we know if the Money Mail carnival is still alive? I guess I should email Rohit, but I have submitted each of the last 4-5 weeks and never see anything on it.

I don't know what is going on over there. The last carnival he put up was December 8.

The carnivals are still live, I had to take a break for some time from carnivals due to personal reasons.

Really sorry about the carnival guys and gals.  Long, long story (mostly involving work), but it's up and running now.  I'm putting together a long list of hosts, too, so if anyone wants to host let me know.

I let you guys down and I'm really sorry about that.  But I'm back and it's up and running.
