Thanks everyone for your comments! The more I think about it- it may be a bit premature to identify my sharing "Goldilocks zone" right now since Debt Black Hole is so new. Might be better to let it present itself organically as the site grows.

Have FUN!

I agree on the family aspect.  I know a number of family members read my blog as I sent everybody an e-mail at the launch (and they were my only readers for a while *lol*).  But, it makes me uncomfortable to reveal income or actual net worth amounts as a result.

Good topic!  I'm in the camp that there's little upside in revealing your income unless your business is predicated on making money showing how much money you make.  That is a good business model btw that works.

A ball park figure sounds good ie Alluding to being in the 28% tax  bracket or something like that for context.

I decided to start on new monthly series in FS entitled "Credit Card Enlightenment", revealing what I spet on my personal credit card.  I've learned A LOT writing the post and reading comments.  Helps keep me accountable and caps lifestyle inflation too.  It is fun to read about others though have to admit

Same w/ us MB.  Our finances are personal.  My family doesn't share their financial information with us, I am not comfortable sharing ours with them.

I am completely open about my identity, associations, and history.  But I refuse to reveal any information relative to income.  My reasoning is pretty simple: I don't anyone checking out the blog, social media or forums, seeing the information and then coming to me looking for donations or "business opportunities" or the like.  It's bad enough that I get a few just from my business being listed (the solicitors call every business listed in directories), but I don't need this to be exacerbated with my income being out there for anyone to see.  Some people might not see that as an issue, but it's just where my line is drawn.

Curious – what's your opinion of the BBB? Wink

In regards to the topic, I don't care to share, and find there's no reason to do so.  I don't dislike blogs because they don't share, nor do I dislike blogs because they do share.  Never really thought it to be all that relevant.

To be honest, it's probably one of the few things I don't have an opinion on JT. Cool

I started blogging to get my finances in order so in that regard I'm pretty open. I've given a ballpark figure of what I make (though not what my business makes, I would never reveal anything related to that) and I detail most of my budget, usually by general categories. i try to be truthful in everything I write so nothing can come back to bite me in the butt if and when my friends or family would start reading my blog. I think the only thing I don't really share is my identity, I still blog under a pseudonym and honestly, my nickname is driving me nuts so that may change soon. :p

I provide my debt totals each month (well I was, not I just say, I've got a shite of debt and I suck b/c I'm not paying it [PP])

I may put up my income at some point. I've been thinking about it but at this time, there's little point. I'm just now starting to bring in any.
