Hi Barb,
I have a question for you! It's about commodities. Which investors (age, income, other characteristics?) should add commodities to their portfolios, and why would/should you do it? If you recommend it, which ones and why?
Thanks Barb!!

Regarding commodities, here is my short commentary and a permanent link to an excellent research paper by Bhardwaj, Gorton, and Rouwenhorst:
"Fooling Some of the People All of the Time:
The Inefficient Performance and Persistence of Commodity Trading Advisors"
This downloadable Acrobat paper costs nothing but your time to read it, and it is an eye-opener.

HI Larry and Color,
I look forward to weighing in on commodities and will ping you when I write the post. In the meantime, check out Larry's research, it looks promising.

Here's my Q:
I know I should have some bonds in my portfolio, but the rates are still near record lows. Should I still invest in bonds, knowing there's a decent chance I will lose money over the short to intermediate term?
Serious question, and I keep punting from making the decision. :)
Feel free to include a link to me! Thanks
Here is your response "Should I Invest in Bonds Even Though I Might Lose Money?
If you have a diversified investment portfolio with stock and bond holdings, you must read this article.
Thanks to Justin for a great question!!!

Why should I care about risk at all for investments that I won't use for 40+ years? Shouldn't I be swinging for the fences to get the highest possible return? For example, having a diversified stock fund but nothing in bonds or other investment classes.

This is great Barbara! Here's mine:
What percentage of my stock investments, if any, should I allocate towards international stocks and emerging markets (the latter of which seems to have more volatility)?
HI Brian and anyone reading this, I've finally answered this international investing question. It's such a great question that I'm devoting 2 posts to respond. The first one is live: International Stock Investing Guidelines-Part 1. Check it out and tell me what you think.
Also, this offer is still open if anyone else has investing questions they'd like answered!!

Hi Barbara, Here's my question…
I would like to invest my emergency fund (about 10k). However I would like it to be fairly safe and easy to withdraw should I need it.

John, I actually have a great idea for this one, but I need to understand something first; Are you in the UK? Do you have access to investing in US Treasury i bonds? Let me know and I'll put your question in the queue.

Hi all Yakezier's, as stated above, I got a bit carried away with Brian's question and turned it into a 2 article post. The second section is live today: International Stock Investing Guidelines-Part 2
I'm really curious about how you invest internationally, and also those of you outside the U.S.

Are online discount brokers (like E*Trade) a good starting place for new investors with little capital? If not, where would you recommend someone start? Also, any resources for someone stepping out of debt and wanting to step into that next phase.

Thanks for this! Great idea!

Is it better to buy a really small part of big businesses' stocks on the stock market or to buy bigger part of local businesses' stocks (in which we can have an influence)?
