Hey guys,
Any of you have experience using Infolinks (in text ads)? Similar, but supposedly better than Kontera? Just curious.

I started out with Infolinks in my early blogging days, but didn't make any money off of it. I then switched to Kontera, but removed it from my blog because I felt like it was increasing the number of external links beyond what advertisers like to see.
I only made $7.77 during the 5 months I had it on my blog.

I'm currently using InfoLinks and I am making about $3 per week using it. I like it, but it does slow my page load down a bit. It is nice that you get paid for people just hovering for a bit, not necessarily clicking.

Hi Buck Inspire,
This is Jonathan from Kontera. It looks like you have a personal finance website, Kontera's exclusive ad inventory includes a lot of premium, Rich-Media ads from relevant brands as Charles
Schwab, ETrade, Bank of America, CitiBank, American Express, AIG, and more. These ads are offer great CPC, and can only be found on the Kontera network. If you qualify for the Kontera network, I think you will see great ads for your content.
Jacob, in terms of your comment about the amount of Kontera links on a page, we can totally control on our end the amount of ads that are displayed on a page. If you'd like to talk to me about that or anything else we can do to optimize your account, don't hesitate to e-mail me.

I have read a few unfavortable comments about Infolink. Have you tried Adsense? Chitika?
Jonathan, how has the overall sentiment/response been to the in context pop up ads?

I have tried out a bunch of these different types of ad methods and they end up paying next to nothing…

I've used Kontera on one of my other blogs. I requested a payment in July, I received payment in Oct. I ended up removing Kontera.
Sorry, Johnathan, have to call you out on this one. The best would be to do what Google does – payout without me having to initiate a request or pay up promptly.

I have seen infolinks on quite a few blogs so i figure that the payouts are decent.

I'd like to get more of an idea on Infolinks as well. Robert, $3/week doesn't seem that great no? What kind of CPM/RPM does that come out to be?
My main issue is slowing down my site's load time. I also always find an adjustment period for myself at least when I put up new ads within the content column. Feels weird at first and then I get used to it.
I tried Kontera before and it was OK. But, I would need a minimum CPM/RPM to run those ads again. We were able to control the amount of Kontera homepage outgoing links to 2 or 3.
If anybody from Kontera or Infolinks wants to e-mail me a proposal, feel free to do so again.
Thanks,
Sam

I've tried these automated in-content text link ad networks on other websites in the past and the click prices were just far too low. In my opinion they end up looking a bit spammy, making them not worth the low prices. If they are also slowing down your sites, that's even more reason not to use them. Google rewards fast loading sites.

I've decided to give InfoLinks a go and see how the CPM turns out for 1 month. If they don't slow down to load time, provide a CPM around $3 or higher, and is unobtrusive, then I think it's a win.
The customization is incredibly simple.
I tried out Media.net for a couple months and it was pretty bad (See Media.Net Review). However, after I gave them some feedback, they worked to improve their algos, and two months later, I agreed to test it out on FS, and it's much much better now. I've also gotten used to the ads.
There's always room for improvement, and it's great to see advertisers listen to feedback, b/c many times, they don't.

$3/week doesn't seem worth it especially if it slows the site down.
What is the payout threshold? $100? It will take 33 weeks to hit that.

I'm curious to hear how Infolinks goes. That's great about media.net. I was using them casually over the past few months (below the fold, with no adjusting, etc.) and it was slowly bringing in money. I just recently got a new rep at media.net and they have been great to work with. Usually, it would take them 3 days to respond and the customization would re-set without warning. Now, it's much faster and profitable. It seems to be much better now and there is a much higher RPM now. I hope it continues.

Come on Joe, I could buy three double-double cheeseburgers at $3 a week!
The payout threshold is $50 I believe.

Personally I'm not a fan of all the text links scattered through the threads now. I think it just makes it look spammy. I know Sam doesn't care about my opinion though lol.

Ahh, but it's hard to pass up all those cheeseburgers Jeremy! It's great to always be testing things out and seeing what works. Provides for good product reviews and I'm sure other people are wondering too.
Thanks for all the support!

Yes to some people all those cheeseburgers are much more important than how user friendly a site is or how people perceive it. To each his own. I know it makes me want to contribute less around here.

Definitely Jeremy. Advertising certainly puts off more readers than others. It's a fine balance. Sorry to see you contribute less. I hope you were able to get your money's worth out of these forums and I'll endeavor to try harder to create a better user experience for all. Take care!

I think you've got it switched around. I think you meant to say that you hope you got your advertising income out of my contributions. Luckily we are all free to choose what advertising methods we feel best serves our visitors. Some people aren't too concerned about their visitors though. They'd rather make a quick buck than treat visitors with respect. I guess it's easy to mix up 'selfishly' and 'selflessly'. They do sound quite similar.
