Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum. I am an early retiree and am starting to put energy into blogging. I blog about lifestyle freedom, financial independence and technology.

I would like to build my followers and lower my Alexa ranking. My approach thus far is to write compelling blogs (2 a week), build my Twitter and other social following (I have about 20,000 followers now) and to follow other successful blogs/forums, commenting there and becoming active with them.

Over the past few months, I've started getting bogged down with following blogs & forums (I follow about 20 now and try to comment on each one). I am wondering if I am following too many blogs & forums as it does take quite a bit of time for this activity.

Any advice on how many blogs and forums to follow from the veterans in this forum?

Thanks in advance for your advice, it is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Yakezie forums. Getting nearly 20k twitter followers in such a short time blogging is pretty impressive. As for your question – it really just depends. There is no rhyme or rule on how many blogs to follow and/or comment on. I know some bloggers are voracious followers of other blogs and comment as much as they can. It gets your name out there and visible and it is also a way of networking with other bloggers. The drawback is, as you have discovered, it can be time consuming and not everyone is going to read and follow you back.

You certainly do not have to read and comment on every single post for the blogs you follow. That may allow you to expand to following additional sites. Try using a RSS reader/aggregator such as Feedly. It can make following blogs much easier and you can more easily keep track of which ones have published recently.

Also, it is probably a good idea to do a bit of background check on the blogs you follow to see how active they are, if they get lots of comment and whether they have good ranking and authority.

1. Don't rely solely on social media and blog/forum commenting, make sure you are starting a list and using it well.

2. Look for some top PF blogs (there are some good lists out there) that allow you to comment and add your link in the URL section. Provide insightful comments, make sure you are one of the first ones to comment, to  get maximum exposure. Again, don't spam, provide good stuff.

3. see in time which convert the best. Study your stats and apply the Pareto principle on them (most traffic will come from few sites). FOCUS on them, ditch the rest.

4. guest post. It should give you a bigger boost of traffic than the previous traffic strategies.
