I didn't know about this limit until I was poking around in my control panel recently. Apparently, I have exceeded that limit a few times recently and they let me go with it. So, they do seem to be understanding if it only happens once in a while.

$20/year sounds like a great deal. Was that with a promotion or something, or is that the normal price?

Yes, it was a promotion. They had a 75% off for life coupon as long as you selected yearly billling instead of monthly. That coupon is long gone. However, there is a 50% off for life coupon that is still active (again you need to go for yearly billing). I posted about it along with my affiliate link in one of the other threads on hosting so you can check it out there.

I'm also on their highest package. If I took their lowest package then I would only be paying about $10/year. You might be able to get away with their middle package, depending on what your future plans are. They'd probably also let you upgrade later and keep the 50% off too. You do also get a small discount off the posted rates by going yearly, which you have to do anyway to use the coupon.

Let me know of your experiences on HostGator, Mich. I've had good experiences with BlueHost, but it's always good to try new things.

HostGator has been great for me.  They have been able to quickly answer every question and service has been top notch.  Virtually zero downtime.
