I recently had someone submit a guest post to be published on If You Can Read, You Can Cook. The quality of the writing is good, and the length is fine. The bio link is acceptable to my standards.

But I disagree with the premise of the article. Ordinarily, I am open to differing opinions. I enjoy debate. In past cases, I would put a disclaimer stating my opinion on the matter. But in this case, my disclaimer would have to be along the lines of "I categorically disagree."

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

I wouldn't post either.  Your readers will probably balk at a view that differs so much from your own.

I've posted articles I didn't agree with in the past. I think I posted a guest post from someone disagreeing with some of Dave Ramsey's methods that I had written about in agreement with elsewhere on the site.  I just posted a comment on the article mentioning how I felt about the topic, and opened it up for discussion in the comments.  I think it can be a good discussion starter to have posts that might not ordinarily fit your writing mold.   Of course it really depends on what the topic is as well, and just how vehemently I disagree (and how much I need a post that week.)

One option is to include an Editor's Note in the article. There are often many sides to an argument, and I have to say it's always interesting to hear someone else's point of view when it's well-thought-out.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to go ahead and deny the post.

They were basically asserting that raw cookie dough is unsafe to consume because of salmonella risk. However, commercially sold eggs in the US are pasteurized. Most salmonella cases come from undercooked poultry or unpasteurized eggs.

I'll probably write my own post on the subject in the next couple weeks.

I suppose e coli is still a factor, but maybe not salmonella specifically…

I personally wouldn't consider posting something on my site that I disagreed with. I like to debate as much as the next guy, but it would have to be on somebody else's site. I don't want to send mixed messages on my blog.

I would post an article I disagree with if a couple of factors held true:

1. The article was factually correct, and

2. The subject matter was relevant and not against anything I stand for.

The way I see it, writing is supposed to enlighten and encourage independent thought.  By putting something that fit my personal guidelines but not necessarily my own way of thinking, it not only gives a different voice to the site, but also may challenge me to think a little bit on the subject.  It could also provide a great opportunity to do a rebuttal post on either your own site or the guest poster's (assuming they have one) in order to generate a discussion and possibly introduce yourself to a new audience.

In the end, you need to go with your gut and do what you feel comfortable doing.

If it's immoral, than no. If I just didn't agree, then yes! I might put a disclaimer but I find that it's refreshing to read other's opinions on blogs sometimes.

Not if you completely disagree. As you said, I'm always open for debate, but it sounds like this was not an option in this case.

Depends on what my disagreement is. If it's just a matter of opinion I'll likely still post it but add in my notes inline in the article. If I think that the article is downright illegal or immoral, then I probably won't post it, but thankfully I don't think I've ever received a request like that.

I know you've already made your decision, but I don't think I'd post. There's been one time I posted something from a guest that I didn't agree with, and I still think about it today. I don't remember the good posts…I think about that one. Never again.

My 2 cents, for what it's worth: I'm running a blog, not a newspaper, so I don't feel an obligation to present a range of views. Censorship's my privilege! Readers are welcome to say whatever they want in the comments, as long as it's civil and not spam. I wouldn't publish anything I felt could be detrimental to Money Counselor's readers, except to use the piece as a verbal 'punching bag,' so to speak. I'm not sure though your cookie dough example is something I'd get real worked up about, one way or the other, but I'd sure be leery of publishing info that even has a remote chance of hurting someone!

Factually incorrect?  No, definitely don't post.  There's enough misinformation out there already and you don't want to put your stamp of approval on it (which is what you're doing – assisting the spread of blatant misinformation.)

Arguably incorrect?  Post it, and if you disagree follow it up.
