200,000 on Alexa?

Hi all,

I'm excited about starting the Yakezie challenge. I've followed the list of requirements and added my name to the spreadsheet so can't wait to get started on Monday!

My page rank worldwide is 2.4 million. To become a Yakezie member it has to get below 200,000. I'm writing my blog because it means a lot to me, I've, like many, been through tough financial experiences and want to give back. However, I like the idea of being part of the community and want to give myself the best shot at completing the 6 month challenge. Would anybody have any tips for completing the challenge and getting below 200,000 on Alexa? I'm going to read up on SEO as it may make a difference, but anything else anyone can offer by way of advice will be warmly received.

Thanks,

John "The Bankruptcy Guy"

Thanks guys, it's great to feel welcome to the forum!

Really good tips! I'm sure I'll be amazed at the progress. Ultimately it's more about meeting new people and sharing, I'm sure one day the site will be below 200,000 Laugh

Yes… Don't worry about the numbers. In a month or 2 you will be down under 200K or close to it. Read, comment and always come from the heart.

Welcome to the challenge! We are current challengers and new bloggers as well. Once you start writing regularly and interacting with others, you'll see your number drop very quickly. When we started we were at about the same number you were. In just a few weeks, we are now at about 565,000.

Good luck, and we'll be sure to check you out!

The simple act of installing the toolbar and visiting your own site to respond to comments will make that number drop pretty fast. Plus, as Ted, Jai, and Club Thrifty pointed out, commenting on other blogs and interacting with bloggers will drive Alexa-toolbar-bearing traffic to your site.

My biggest recommendation besides what has already been said is to join a team the next time they are announced. Yakezie teams are groups of half a dozen or so Yakezie members and challengers that regularly visit each others sites and promote them.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Thanks Club Thirty, it's encouraging to see the progress you've made – it can be done.

Edward, thanks too. I'd love to know more about the Yakezie teams! I'm going to have a look for more information on this. I can imagine that being part of a focussed support group could benefit every website. Thanks for the tip mate!

Welcome! I agree with what most others have said….don't focus on the number right now. Just keep up with writing good posts and comment and promote others. If you do that, the ranking will take care of itself.

Hi Moneysma, thanks for your comments.

Guys, you're right. In one week my rank has dropped from 2.4mil to 1.3mil. I didn't believe it but obviously hard work and the Yakezie way will ultimately yield success.

Thanks all again!

OK, I'm convinced. From 2.4million to 800,000 in two weeks. I think posting 3 articles a day, visiting blogs and commenting where appropriate is really working.

It really does make a difference. When I started the challenge, I was at 10 million, and I think it only took 3-4 months to get under 200k. The more you participate, the bigger difference you'll notice. :)

That's cool sooverthis. It leads me to question how Alexa actually works? Either way, i'm not complaining :-)

I can't understand it but I'm down at 480,000 from 2.4million. Collectively, working alongside people on the Yakezie forum really does make a difference.

Although, I'm starting to notice my blog posts slipping. Slap on the wrist. Back to the website :-)

Well, I can't quite agree with "in a month or two" since I've been a challenger for about 4 months now and am in the 300Ks (which is a HUGE drop from where I started – 3 million); but if you read, and comment honestly and with content, then you'll definitely start to see a drop. I agree with Jai on that one. And I've found that since becoming more involved in Yakezie and being more active in supporting fellow Yakezie-ers (through blog roundups and twitter mentions mostly)that my score has dropped faster. And it's made me appreciate other bloggers better.

I use the "SEO All in One Pack" or some plugin like that, which has seemed to help my search engine hits (which has helped the alexa score).

Hi TB, I'm down to the 300,000's now too! It's taken about 4 months too, so hopefully I'll beat the challenge by the end of the 6 months. To be honest, I'm just enjoying writing the blog and interacting with other members so the 200,000 figure has been put to the back of my mind.

I'm at 240K right now (so close!!) but also started up in the millions like you. One thing that seemed to really help me was Yakezie, and supporting other bloggers. Specifically, I'd go to other blog sites and leave comments about their posts. This supports them and brings traffic back to me (win win!). Also, I do a blog roundup every couple weeks and this seems to help too. It's another way of showing other bloggers that you dig them and send traffic their way; and many of them will turn around and support you right back!

That close to the finish line point was the worse for me. Progress seemed to slow to a crawl. By the time I was under 250k, the number would go down by about 1000 per day.

Commenting is definitely key. My way of discovering new blogs to read is pretty much new challengers announcing themselves on Yakezie forums and from comments to blogs. People who have CommentLuv installed are an invaluable resource for me finding interesting content.
