Unfortunately, I still have no idea on the IP address who is doing it. They should. I'd ban them if they tell me.

OK, I've got 2 of the German IP addresses that are screwing with my ads from statcounter. How do I go about blocking them??

I'm not exactly sure, but would you mind sending them to me via email so that I can check them as well? I think you can block them right on StatCounter.

You can block the ip addresses through your host cpanel.  Be careful with this and be sure you have the correct ip addresses.  If they are using a proxy you can end up blocking "good traffic".

I've been seeing some strange behavior, as well. Oddly high CTRs coupled with very low CPCs, a balance that goes up and then drops back down within a day (as if Google is scrubbing clicks), etc. I've checked Adsense performance by country and I did see a spike in clicks from Germany on Monday, April 1st but not since then. In general, it seems like most of this is coming from the US.

So… I've installed Stat Counter. Anyone care to explain how to see who is clicking what? Maybe under "Exit Links"? Is the IP info attached when you do this? Sorry, but I just set it up and don't have any data to work with yet.

P.S. If you want to see country data in AdSense (as others have suggested), simply click Performance Reports at the top and then Countries in left sidebar. From there you can fine-tune the date range and look for any outliers in the list.

You're on the right track. I've been able to see it either in the "Visitor Path" or Exit Links areas of statcounter.

Well, here's an update on our end. The Big G has denied our appeal and our account is officially disabled – probably because I have no way of finding the IP address. So that kind of stinks, but I think we'll make it.

I'm sorry to hear that Holly. They denied my appeal as well. It really bugs me that they are shutting us down, as we did absolutely nothing wrong. Adsense was the first (and only) thing I had set up to try to earn a little money, looks like it is back to the drawing board.

Yep, pretty much sucks. We also did nothing wrong, but what are you going to do. If you still want to use contextual ads, you can try Lijit.com or Chitika.

To those who have been banned, how many questionable clicks were you getting? I'm curious about both raw numbers (i.e., x per day) as well as CTR. How long was it going on? And did you self-report before getting banned?

Yes, we self reported the day before being banned. We were getting between 17-60 clicks a day and had only been receiving 3-5 per day on average. Our CTR went to between like 12-20%. It had only happened for about 4 days. When I finally checked and realized what was happening, I self-reported almost immediately.

I did not self-report. By the time I read this thread I think it was too late. I had only had Adsense for 5 days when this happened and I had no idea what to expect for a normal CTR. Mine was probably in the high 20's and it maybe generated 30-40 clicks total.

This is almost my exact situation, I haven't been banned as of yet but I'm getting worried. My CTR is still pretty high over the past day or so, right around 10%.

If you haven't been banned yet and you're still looking for "who to block", go to your AdSense Settings, scroll down to "Access and authorization" and set the only domain allowed to show ads to some absurd domain that would never show your ads.

Sometimes there will be no IP address apparent – remember someone can toss up a secondary site and host your ads there (your ID is public if you view source).  You can authorize specific domains.  I wrote some code which determines whether a visitor gets a CPC or a CPM ad – email me for more details (or, if you have access to the public forum, you can look in there).

Anyway – self-report, but also shut off your ad payments by using the 'Authorization' trick.  I got click-bombed for a bit more than a day, self-reported, turned off my ads for 3 days, figured out the pattern, and wrote my script.  I'm still in AdSense.

Any advice for the already banned? We appealed and were shot down.

Just saw that I had an abnormal amount of clicks as well, from a US source. But wasn't able to track down and IP address since I didn't have statcounter installed at the time.

I reported it to google and hopefully everything will be sorted out.

I have StatCounter and have been keeping careful track of my ad clicks. Interestingly, I've had a ton of suspicious activity ever since I started watching. For example, yesterday I showed 11 clicks on AdSense but only 3 in StatCounter. I'm thinking this is some kind of script that registers false ad clicks. I reported myself to AdSense but I'm looking to be banned any day now. Ugh…

I just noticed the same thing with my blog.  Since I make so little, I would never have noticed it so thank you for sharing. I've removed Adsense for now and self-reported.  We shall see what happens.
