How Meaningful Is Money Crashers?

Hey all,

Money Crashers currently has Funancials ranked at 309. One Cent at a Time, one of my favorites, is sitting at 307. I am more confused than flattered due to SB's dominating site statistics over my own; yet we're hovering around the same area.

Obviously the Top PF Blog List has some accuracy seeing the familiar names on page one, but do you all find this list credible?

I find it hard to be with Funancials ahead of more of my favorites, Beating Broke/Money Mamba.

Thanks,

If you have a lot of NA then the aggregate of your other scores are usually higher.

You have good PR, MozRank and Alexa Rank so that bring up your average score. I think once you get your other scores like compete, technorati, etc… you'll drop a bit.

I think they can improve their scoring to somehow take into account the NA. I don't get too many referral from Money Crasher so I don't worry about it too much.

MoneyMamba is one of your favorites?  I'm humbled.  Laugh

As RB40 said, the N/As don't count against you.  If your stats are proportionally higher than the current stats listed, then your site will rise as the N/As turn to values.  If they aren't, then your site will fall.  Money Crashers is good about updating their rankings, so give it a couple days and you'll get a better idea of where you stand.  I'm thinking they do a weighted average of each column, find your weighted percentile, then call it a ranking system.  It's not perfect, nothing is, but it absolutely puts a whooping on Wisebread's rankings.

Hunter, I also thought about that and have the answer as well. I am lagging on two most important aspects PR and feed subscribers. MC put highest weight on these two parameters.

RB40 is right, when I had NA on feed count, I was ranked 260 something.

I don't get any referral traffic from Money Crashers (maybe 3 visits since I've been on the list) but I remember before my Technorati ranking came into play I was much higher. I'm working on increasing my numbers in feed subscribers to go up in the rankings. I'd love to be in the top 100 but that's definitely gonna take some time.

I get a bit from MC but not enough to worry about my ranks on the site.

I have not received any referrals from MC (at least in the top 5 pages of google analytics). I am in the 130s I think. It is good to have a quick way to check my ranking once in a while though,

I don't think I've ever received any referrals from MC's list.  I haven't even checked over there recently so don't even know where I'm at….

It's a link.  It appears not to be a nofollow link.  You've already won.  :)

I'm just surprised that anybody outside the top 100 would put up the badge and say their rank.  I'd think it would be embarrassing to say "I'm #233" no?

I haven't checked their list since it first came out.  I honestly just look at the Yakezie Blog Network list mainly to read the latest posts http://yakezie.com/personal-fi…..nce-blogs/ and visit new sites here and there.

haha that's exactly why I dont have the badge up.  its like the Robert Deniro quote in Meet the Fockers when he looks at Gregs 12th place ribbons.."Ive never seen people celebrate mediocrity the way you do"…lol no offense to anyone, I just wanted a chance to use that line.

Good point, I'll be taking my badge down as I'm a tad below the 100 mark :)

I think it was Tom @ Canadian Finance Blog who mentioned to me that some of the SEORush like metrics are very heavily US-centric.  Those of us who get considerable traffic from outside the US get dinged and the MC rankings reflect that.

Yeah…I don't think I've ever even BEEN to the Technorati website!

Not a big stat checker…

I did submit my site to Wisebread many moons ago.

If I were an advertiser I would check it out, it would give me "some" indication of where I might want to spend money.

I rarely see clicks from MC but I do get some from Wisebread. But then WB doesn't use the US focused visitor metrics – and since we're not American, we appreciate not being penalized for not being in the US.

I dont get much traffic from them – so I dont really let it bother me, Last I checked I was in the 300s. Hopefully I've gone up since then!
