Hi All

My site has been indexed by Google but when you search by my blog name it pulls up my "About" page not my home page.

How do I get my site to come up in search with the home page first and list of main categories?

I have used webmaster tools to highlight pages.  I have added an additional internal link to home page to make it the most linked to page.

I am not sure what else I can do.  Thanks

It is not that Google hates you, but Google responds to the words and phrases in your search query.  If you type in "messy money" then it sees your about page has having the keyword messy and money the most.  It then thinks that is the most appropriate landing page for people searching for your blog.  You don't get to choose categories that Google puts below listings. It does that on its own. You also can't choose if they put them there at all.

Think about putting your categories into your menu, maybe as a drop down. When Google sees those at the top of the page and part of the menu structure, it might give them more weight.

Ok thanks for the info.  I will play around with the menus a bit.  Maybe I am being impatient (?)

Just an update — I think I have solved some of the problem.  My google search traffic dropped like a rock around Aug 8th. The search graph is frightening. Around that time I installed a few plugins to solve for slow loading.

I installed Unveil Lazy load plugin for wordpress and I think based on conversations I have found on other forums that this is responsible for some of my issues.  I deactivated it last night.

I also installed WP Super Cache at the same time – I really hope that it not causing issues too – but I will need to experiment and see.
