Hey Everyone,
I am working on something that I think is really cool (more details to come soon) and could use some feedback. If you have a budget that you use for your finances, what are your big categories?? In other words, which categories do you use when you separate your budget into separate areas?
For example, here are my "big" categories:
1.Housing
2.Transportation
3.Food
4.Insurance
5.Personal Care
6.Entertainment
7.Savings
8.Other/Misc.
What are yours? Thanks for your feedback.

Believe it or not, dry cleaning is substantial enough that I have it as it's own category lol.

Add a category for screw ups or unexpected problems. Really! What if you get a traffic ticket, or lose a library book, or something like that. No matter how responsible I think I am, something happens. Budget for the truly unexpected as well, give yourself a cushion for it. I'm talking about things that wouldn't warrant fitting under an emergency fund category.
Also, how about a fund for vacations? Maybe you have that under Entertainment. Also, with holidays coming up, think about a budget for gifts. Actually, gifts may have to be given throughout the year for birthdays, etc.

I only have a handful of broad buckets:
Rent
Bills (I put aside money every week for power, phone, internet, cable, insurance, car repairs, car rego etc)
Groceries
Petrol
Fun money.

Hi Corey,
Its December and I am a bit late to the party, but what was the result of what you were working on regarding budgeting categories? I searched on 20sFinance and was not sure that I found what you were hinting about. Thanks, Larry
