Posted as a guest post. No biggie, but any support you can provide in promoting this would be cool and appreciated!

This is uncommon for my blog thus far, but does anyone else get things picked up by mega-sites such as MSN? In my 6 months, I've had only 1 link to TIME, two links to The Globe and Mail (Canadian Daily), and that's it. Just curious about others' experiences.

Thanks!

Happy to support and promote! I liked the crafty waitress Wink

Commented but waiting for moderation I suppose, didn't show up. For anyone else who wants the direct link (I had trouble finding it)

Thanks, Suba! I appreciate you providing the link.

There I was talking about this article and not providing a link. Not so "crafty" of me :)

Wow!  That's awesome!  How'd you manage to get it posted there?  Did they just see your article and ask to repost it?

Thanks, everyone!

To answer the question of how this was picked up, they just reached out to me out of the blue and asked if they could run it – without compensation, but I get 3 additional links.

There's been a definite traffic bump, but nothing staggering to be honest.  For context, my blog is smaller (~130k Alexa), and according to Google Analytics it only averages about 80-85 uniques a day right now. I gave it a check, and this doubled traffic yesterday, so it might have led to an additional 70-80 uniques to total 150, that's it.  Haven't checked today but maybe that effect has continued. I really don't want to be checking stats any more than one time per week.

Also, Forest, the Time link was just an article of mine that they simply linked to in one of their own roundups. That's all it was. However, the traffic bump there was much different – it generated an extra 800 additional unique visitors in one day alone, again up from the typical 80. Actually, since that was a few months ago, my uniques were maybe 60 or so on average. That traffic faded after a few days, but probably generated an additional 2,000 visits in those few days, beyond the normal traffic. Then, things went down to "normal", with a slightly higher regular traffic level. Maybe I picked up a few regular readers then, who knows.

I did have one radio station from Canada (I'm American, living in Chicago) that cold-called me (email, actually) interested in talking to me after reading a few frugality stories, but after their producer screeened me they never called back. Maybe I was too "boring" for them:) It's all good though.

Such is the excitement of a smaller blog just 7 months old!

Good job Squirrelers!  I would have expected a  bigger traffic surge from MSN but either way its still an impressive achievement.

Mike – Thanks. I did check stats again (despite my intent not to do this too often) out of curiosity, and there were in fact an additional 400+ visitors from MSN. Most of them came the day after it was published. For a small ~130k Alexa blog, that's a surge in readers! The whole episode goes to show that you never know who might be reading each of our blogs!
