Welcome, FMF, Eric and My university money.
FMF, you have another faithful reader, here. I love your blog, thanks for joining here. Can you tell us what make you donate the money and how you started making money from your blog?
Eric, welcome, hope you have fun. I love the type of your blog, wish I was that creative. Mind if I add you to my blog roll too?
My university money, I write a blog about students and money, mind if I add you to my blog roll? I think it would be cool to do a student finance blog round up, what do you think of that?
Thanks, and thanks for commenting on the posts too! You can absolutely add me to your blogroll.

Added, Eric. Would you be interested in doing a student/young person carnival? I have been thinking about it a lot. Maybe us, NoDebtMBA and a few others could do sort of a round robin. I just do not know how to set up a site for people to apply. I'm thinking of posting it on the main page and asking for help if anyone else is interested in doing a carnival.

Technically, I joined last Thursday, 7/21. Of course, somehow my Alexa rating has gone in the wrong direction since then, but that probably comes with the weekend. My original Alexa score was 7,121,869 and today it's 7,125,971, but at this point, 4,000 one way or another barely even registers with how far I have to go.
At least my budget blog (the newest of my 4) has an Alexa rating. My daily blog over on WordPress is has a ranking of over 11 million and my pet and micro-fiction blogs don't even have rankings.
I've only been writing Baking the Budget since April, so I'm still finding my personal finance voice, but hope very much that the challenge will push me in the right direction.

Looks today like it's up (down) to 4.4 million. Big drop, and you'll see a bigger drop from joining the challenge. Get ready for a ride!

Trying something new and joining the group! We'll see how long it takes me to figure out the forums. :-)
Welcome indeed FMF! It was good chatting with you on e-mail and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun and meet some good folks out here.
Look forward to seeing you around!
For those who don't know, FMF has donated over $100k if not $200k+ to charity from is site since inception! It is an incredible figure and inspiration. I would love to have you on a leadership role with the Yakezie Writing Contest Committee.
Cheers, Sam
Sam –
It's actually $300k so far but I think it will be over $400k after this year. (I'm going to have to go back and add up all the years to be sure at the end of 2011.)
Let me get settled a bit (still figuring out the forums — and how do you all get those boxes with all your contact info on them?) and then we can discuss how I can help the group. (BTW, I will be posting some suggestions in the forums for how to get included in a Consumerist roundup — what I look for in posts I select — sometime in the next month or so, so stay tuned.)

Frugal Student –
Thanks.
I started the donation thing simply because it was part of something I did anyway (gave a certain % of my income) and I thought it would be another way I could reinforce these principles on the blog (by giving myself, I could talk more about giving.) It also eliminates any sort of "you're pushing this product because you want to make money" comments from readers — I can always say "no I'm not, I'm giving away everything I make." Not that making money is bad (it's good!) but giving does help me deal with the conflict of interest issues that seem to surface now and then.
FYI, I have not committed to giving all of my profits away forever. I've said over and over that I'm doing it for now, but reserve the right to stop/change/alter my plans in the future if I want. For instance, I might take early semi-retirement some day and use FMF as a way to fund it.
I started making money simply by running Adsense which most bloggers use. Since then, I've added affiliate programs and have sold ads directly. One thing I'd like to do in the future is add my own products (ebooks) for sale, but I need to find the time to write them.

To get the box go to "profile" in the upper right under the black Yackezie network banner. From there you'll find a tab on the far right labeled "Setup your signature".
Thanks for joining! Also a long time reader.
