Ok…third time is a charm, right??
I first began this challenge, I don't know, months ago. I got sooo close, I was in the 300,000 range and I let issues pull me away from blogging. I tried a second time and blew that one too.
But now…NOW I'm in it for good. As of today, October 4, 2011 I'm taking part in the Yakezie Challenge! My Alexa ranking is 1,199,268 (Thanks FinCon for bringing it down below 1.4million!).
Ok I'm going to make it this time!

Jen – Yes I took the decision not to allow comments but I will keep that under review.
I'm going to be brutally honest here. You should rethink not allowing comments if you want to be successful in the Yakezie. It doesn't lend itself to community.

Welcome aboard.
Kay – I've happy to be part of a community and promote other writers articles, I host a monthly Carnival and promote other people's stuff a lot of Twitter, Facebook & Stumbleupon. IMO spending a lot of time writing and moderating comments is not the most effective spend of my time. I'm doing this as a business, so I need to reach out beyond the online community to "the man/woman" in the street and one of the best ways to do that is by spending a lot of time on SEO and writing unique/interesting/useful content.
Yes I'd like to be successful in Yakezie but I don't believe that not allowing comments on my site precludes this; members may disagree but every one has to be clear about their goals and work toward them in the what they judge to be the most effective manner.

@Karen
Part of blogging is the interpersonal connection one gets via interaction with readers. By disallowing comments you essentially neuter that powerful 2 way communication. I think you will find people won't be nearly as inclined to bother with a site where there are no comments.
In addition, sites that don't allow comments are often viewed (especially by other bloggers, whom you are trying to engage via Yakezie) as sites that fairly or not may not be considered legitimate blogs.
When you flat out state "i'm doing this as a business" it almost shows that you want to be a commercial entity, and that is not what Yakezie is about. If you fail to build relationships w/ Yakezie, regardless of your Alexa rank or completion of a 6 month challenge, your chances of gaining membership are lessened. Part of the application form is listing (I believe) 10 member and 10 challenger sites that will vouch for you. If you never interact, via your site, with other Yakezie I can't see how this challenge will have benefit for you aside from gaining knowledge on these forums. Membership is not guaranteed and by cutting off those who are trying to support you, IMO, you're not fostering relationship building whatsoever.

Welcome, you might want to include a signature with a link to your blog, so the yakezie community knows which blog is yours. :)
