This isn't the same Jack Reed from http://darngoodblogging.com/, is it? I published a guest post for him and it seemed like a decent post — didn't see any duplicates out there.
Here was the post: http://www.investitwisely.com/…..rtest-way/
Jack Reed that asked for a guest post on the Kitchen Sink linked to a debt consolidation website. It doesn't look like the same Jack Reed. But who knows! I might be very wrong.

The Jack Reed that contact me was from that OVLG group or whatever it was called. When I said it would be considered a sponsored post, he then wanted me to push his personal website, which was weredefine.com. I was willing to consider it, until the post was duplicate content.
Kevin, your guest post said Shaun Nichols. Did Jack Reed submit it for Shaun?

OLVG are the worst! I've gotten numerous emails from different people, they don't stop. Once had an offer for a guest post and they listed articles they wrote. I looked up the articles and every one of them linked to OLVG.
Keep an eye out and ask for references/previous work from people that want to write.
I've had to tell them to stop emailing me that I won't let them near my site due to their persistant spam.

If we start to get spam i'll have some counter measures for them they will not like at all … having been using the Internet since the university server network days in the mid-late 80s i've learned a thing or two. Mrs. SPF is always amazed how quickly i'm able to shut down nusances.

Not our intent – we all have a right to exist out there. However, there are a lot of things people can do to combat being pestered incessantly. BBB, forum posts, reviews, site reviews, phone calls and more. From my experience, i've learned that while some folks are persistent at being annoying they can be easily bested with a counter campaign by those saavy on the web.
I should start a new blog on "how to" lol.

Haha, you made me laugh. ;) What's with these generic names that they use?

Yeh, I didn't read this warning soon enough and got his "content" and it was of no interest to me so I have told him I am not interested.
He did try to "contact" me with Google talk, so I have blocked him there as well.
Don't get pushy with me, I don't like pushy folks.

So this is what I sent him:
Jack, i've been informed that you do this a lot and we will not be
accepting your article. We are not interested in being part of the
spam/advertising campaign your company is engaged in.
Do not email us again.
Thank you.
His (laughable response):
Hello,
I am sorry but I have to email you to clear your
misconceptions. That you have been informed I do this a lot, let me tell
you that I work for Oak View Law Group, a respectable law firm which
charges one of the lowest fees in the industry to make its clients
debt-free. As a marketing guy associated with the company, to market
content is my job. And again, we do not believe in "spam campaign"
either. I believe that as a personal finance blogger, you have done
plenty of guest posts yourself. Even if you haven't, usually all PF
bloggers do. Though our site is commercial, we see nothing wrong in
guest posting. We take interest in free consumer education and this is
not solely about marketing. I would highly recommend you that you do
your research properly before making such allegations. Please read my
guest posts and let me know if you find them promotional.
Thank you.
Now I was GOING to respond (which may have made the top 10 rants haha) but decided to ignore him was my best option. I was going to tell him i'm part of this community but smartly decided to not email him as the last thing I need to do is point him to this forum, and more prey.

I still don't get why everyone is all up in arms? Maybe I am just more of a relaxed person. I checked my old mail and found an exchange with him from July where we just left it off with the email below. No reason to fight with these guys
Jack,
I am sorry, but I would have to decline a guest post at this point. If
you'd be interested in a sponsored post the cost is between $50 and $100
unless multiple sponsored posts are purchased and paid for in advance. I
am part of a personal finance group where you have approached many members,
so I know asking for compensation shouldn't be shocking.
Thanks for your interest,
Evan

Not looking for a fight – if I wanted one I would have responded.
It is best we're all aware of this groups tactics and approach to coming after PF bloggers (especially those of us who are new(er)).
Be aware folks.

You're absolutely right, if it ended there. But they email back with different names asking for guest articles. You have to poke around to discover they are from the Oak Law Group. I tell them I'm not interested and I get another email from someone else. This is when it turns to spam.
Had they left it to the one contact, who knows? Maybe I would allow an article or work out a deal? But the fact that they don't stop and they use questionable means to get me to publish their stuff so they can get backlinks? They won't have any links on my site.

I have about 30 email requests for guest posts that I have not read yet….. tempted to just delete them all as having trouble keeping up. I bet these people are amongst the requests.

Please don't delete them. :-) I get my best sponsored post rates and both of my Yakezie campaigns from people like that. I usually quickly explain that their links cause them to fall into my sponsored post category. I then give them my rates and ask if they'd be interested in discussing a group campaign with the personal finance blogging group I'm in. It produces cash 1 out 5 times with me, so your 30 emails may have 5 or 6 winners, lol.
If you just don't have the time, feel free to ask them to contact me. :-) I really have no life, lol.
