I don't get that many bloggers asking for guest posts anymore (I tend to view those in a more positive light), but I get tons of e-mails from businesses and SEO companies "offering" guest posts.

Odds are, if they're contacting you, there's more in it for them than there is for you.

It's rare that I get any response whatsoever for just straight impression-based advertising.  One advertiser hasn't gotten back to me because I wasn't going to agree to including a guest post from them.  They want that persistent link back to their site.

Thanks MBHunter. We are now implementing the common policy that everyone else seems to be using which is:

Free for a fellow blogger

$$$ for anyone else.

:)

Thanks for your help everyone.

Thanks,

Timothy

I do the same as WealthArtisan.

For companies or virtually any site with credit card, payday loan, or "debt consolidation" services, I charge. For you guys and other bloggers, free.

I occasionally run those "free guest posts" if the content is particularly good, but now I use the first email as a criteria if I even respond or it. If the message looks too generic I don't even reply. Usually I ask them if they would like to advertise or publish a sponsored post. Occasionally I'll let them post it for free.

For you guys and other PF bloggers I don't charge, unless one day you want to promote a company then maybe we can talk. :P
