I gave my blog a makeover. I would appreciate it if you can take a minute to check it out and let me know what you think – any broken links, anything you hate or anything I missed… I will appreciate any feedback!

Now that I have the site working properly I should start writing again Smile and comment more (I read almost all of the yakezie blogs, but I am more of a lurker. I should get out of my shell and comment more).

Also, now I think I got the handle of the Thesis theme, so if anyone have any questions or need help customizing this theme, give me a shout.

It is easy to read!  Looks very nice!  Is there a specific reason you have two ways to subscribe to via email?  Other than that, the only other thing I noticed was how bunched together everything on the bottom was, but honestly, I rarely look that low on a blog under normal circumstances anyway.  :-)

I agree with Crystal. The bottom looked a little bit too busy for my taste. But I rarely scroll down that far down. Smile

I like the new design. The bottom is similar to what I have seen on a number of sites. I think it's okay.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys! I really appreciate it!

@BFS and @Aloysa What do you mean by the bottom, the small excerpt of posts or the footer (wth alexa badge)? I reduced the number of excerpt to show to just 4 to make it look a little better. If it is the footer, I will clean that up.

@BFS I will fix the email subscription. Thanks a lot, didn't notice that! Thanks again!

@BuyLikeBuffett Thanks for checking it out for me.

I really like the flow of the site. It looks very good, and easy to read! Are you using Subscribe2 for emails?

@Khaleef yes. I am. That is the reason the mail icon and the subscription form are different. I will have to fix the mail icon to point to the subscribe2 form too. If you are considering using it, I really like it, it works great.

I like the look and feel, but i'll be the negativity on one thing i've read is a bit of a no-no.

First, the good.  I really like how you've shifted the content to the left.  This makes your content the first and most important part of your blog.  I am considering a similar move.  (we currently have 3 columns with the centre column containing the content)

The thing i've read, at least as it pertains to readers, that i'm not sure about and i'm sure others can give more information on, is that you do not show the full content of an article – the reader has to click a post.  Sure this gives you a better idea which posts are being read in full, increases your view rate and reduces your bounce rate – but i've read a lot about blogging that says this is a PITA and that readers may simply ignore your content (or even site) as you are making them do more work.

After taking a closer look, I was talking about your recent comment list.  It doesn't somehow partition up each recnt comment, so it just looks jumbled.  Glad I could help with the email thing!  Someone had to point that out to me too a few months ago, lol.  Please understand that 99% of your site looks amazing and I'm simply finding the 1% to make suggestions about.  :-)

I used Subscribe2 before switching to Feedburner, and now to Aweber. The one thing that I remember about subscribe2 is that it didn't provide email recipients with a clear way to unsubscribe from the emails. They would have to go to your page and enter their email address in the subscribe box and click "unsubscribe". From what I understand, this violates the "CAN SPAM Act", and that is why I went to Feedburner.

However, they may have added that component recently. But you should check just in case.

The header image is nice, but if it were shorter you could have more content above the fold.

I like the look you first land on the page. Not too cluttered. I would also suggest moving some of the stuff in the footer to the side bar – otherwise it will never be seen (at least by people like me who never make it much past the first half of the blog). Maybe move the blogroll to a page and you could add in a widget that shortens the archives to a dropdown menu.

Cheers

Suba, Very nice site. How difficult for a non techy was it to use the Thesis theme? Ballpark time spent? thanks, Barb

What's everyone's take on whether or not to show the full content of each post? I recently embarked on a trial run of having a "show more" button as well.

I copied the way Everyday Tips did it – show the most recent post in full and only the beginnings of the rest.  That way my daily readers can see my daily post without having to click anywhere, but I can keep up with my stats pretty well too.  :-)

I reduced the header image to a size where there is not too much white space. I will come up with a longer, narrower design and replace this. Thanks for the idea.
