I may have to head to the help forum …

I'm stumped then too.  Let me know if you find the answer in the forums!  I actually donated to them recently after my first Adsense payout, so it will be nice to know if they help people out when they need it.  :-)

I've received some pro-bono help already there.  Will let you know what they come back with.

@Crystal – fixed!  Juggledad owns.

The issue was my theme version, which I have now updated (and at long last backed up my site DB)

What a long day of maintenance as I updated the entire site (as recommended) to get rid of all the dates in my URLs.  (this meant updating embedded links too and updating a few forums i've posted in – phew!)

@SPF When you updated your links to get rid of the dates what did you do about any backlinks you had? Did you redirect it using direct sql or a plugin or some other way?

I used "Dean's Permalinks Migration" and haven't had any problems.  It redirects for you.  :-)

Hey Suba,

I read your most recent post and your first ad seems to be bleeding over your post.  Not sure if it is just me.  Just a heads up!

Update

I visited again and it seems to be fine now.  Strange…

Oh no – I hope I didn't mess things up by making the change w/o using this plugin.

I've installed this plugin but can't figure out where to use it!

Hey, nice layout!

good points:

- it's clean and easy to navigate

- not too busy with ads either, it's good ;-)

bad points:

- I think you should put the "about" link somewhere that is more visible

- not sure if your amazon add is relevant (I saw a pair of women winter booths and a elliptical trainer so far)

questions/suggestions:

- why do you have categories at the top and other categories in a column? you might want to use the bar only

- have you considered adding twitter or RSS feed counter? they sometimes encourage readers to subscribe

- have you thought of adding your "RSS welcome box" at the end of the article to remind people to sign up.

- you might want to add "recent comments" on the sidebar

I hope it helps!

Mike.

You don't do anything to use it.  It just sits there and does the work for you.  :-)  I wish all plug-ins were that easy!

@Crystal,  Did you activate the plugin "before" you changed the structure?

The reason I ask is, I bookmarked one of SPF's article sometime ago for a round up post. I just checked that

http://sustainablepersonalfina…..o-charity/

And it is giving me a 404 not found error.

@SPF. Did you change the format from /date/title to ?p=xxx ? May be you are in the middle of making it work and know this already, but in case you wanted to keep the ?p=xxx format… it is not recommended for SEO purposes.

I went to my options, changed them to show my posts without the date, freaked out when everything crapped up, changed my settings back, installed Dean's Permalink Plugin, and tried again.  Voila.  :-)

Thanks. I would like to change, but I am scared that I am going to break everything :) It is good to know it is reversible. I will try this plugin. My host is going to kick me out… I already have 40 plugins… oh well!

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback Mike. I really appreciate it. I will implement the suggestions right away.

To answer some of your questions

- The bar didn't fit everything, so I added the top (most frequently written topics) few categories on top. I can see that can be confusing, I will rearrange them and may be make custom pages or something.

- My RSS feedcount is very low ~100 I thought it will look bad if I add that.

- I had signup reminder box part of my singlepost.php (plugins conflict with my related posts, so I just added it manually), I forgot to add that to the new theme, that is why it is missing in my recent posts. Thanks for the reminder, I will add it back right away.

- I will add the recent comments, revamp the about page and remove the amazon one.

Thanks again.

40 plugins shouldn't be too many. Now if you get to 100, that is.

Is there a way to see who has subscribed to your feed?  I haven't been able to discover this …

I don't know BFS & Everyday tips do this, but as I said I contemplated doing this and if you don't want to play with the wordpress code, there are plugins to do that. The one that I found useful is Homepage excerpts – http://www.dailyblogtips.com/h…..ss-plugin/

Great tip on how to set this up, showing the first post in detail and then abbreviations of the older posts. I will look for a plugin that can be used on the Blogger platform! Thanks.
