I started the challenge on September 27 and 2.5 months later I am done! I broke 200K a few days ago. So, those of you who hesitate, and struggle and get impatient, please don't get discouraged. We all have bad days and slow traffic, and no comments and no one even says Hi.

Stay motivated and you will get there! We are in this together!

Thank you everyone for being such a remarkable, supportive and inspiring community! You rock, guys!

CONGRATS!!!!! And if I remember right, you even switched your site to self-hosting in the middle of your run. Great work!

Looks like we joined about the same time, I started on Oct. 4th, 2010 and am now in the 160K's as of today. The pace of the alexa falling has slowed down, but still working at it. Hoping to crack 100K by the time the Beta group is allowed into membership.

Let's keep it going and those on the fence, GET OFF OF IT AND JOIN YAKEZIE!!!

I did make a switch right in the middle of my run. You are correct! It was tough.

I hope to be close to low 100K by Feb or even break it.

congrats!!!

can you give a very brief correlation of alexa to traffic?

example:

300k alexa = 100 visitors

200k = 200 visitors

100k = 300

approximates would be great, only if you are willing to share.  i have always struggled with this correlation -

It might come as a surprise but there is no such correlation, I think. My average visitors for Oct was about 30 a day, November about 40 and in December about 90. There are days when I get more than 100 a day and there are days when I get less than 100. I think Alexa is much more than just a number of visitors.

I get about 100 visitors a day during the week and have one of the lowest Alexa rankings of the whole group (48,000-ish).  I think there is no correlation at all, lol.

I'm going to chime in here a bit. Alexa rank is all based on people who has the Alexa toolbar installed.

I'll guess stable 200k = about 20 visitors with toolbar / day.

Basically, if you can get people with Alexa toolbar installed to visit your site everyday, you'll improve very quickly. Hence it is good to make friends with readers who has the toolbar installed OR get your friends to install the toolbar. IMHO

If 99% of your readers do not have the toolbar installed, your Alexa ranking won't improve very quickly.

Is this true? I think so.

Case in point – look at the Yakezie Alexa Rank – #16,885. I'm pretty sure everyone here has the Alexa toolbar installed and that pushes the ranking tremendously.

Exactly.  My Alexa rank just means that I have a lot of Alexa toolbar visitors.  Thank you!  I also post weekly updates on Sundays and use it to quickly explain how more people can install Alexa toolbars, lol.
