Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year!  I'm ready to take the Yakezie Challenge.  I've installed the Alexa toolbar and am at 432,171 currently.  My goal is to get below 200,000 after 6 months.  I look forward to meeting and interacting with members here.

My goal is to retire by 40 from dividend income and real estate investments. My plan is to buy solid dividend paying companies that have storied track records of increasing their dividends each year at a rate higher than inflation.   Come follow me on my journey to FI!

The challenger badge will be up today and I'll make a post about it this week.

I'm just under 500k on the challenge.  It's been great so far…the Alexa tool is a great measuring stick.  I have no idea exactly how it works but it does make me feel good to see that number getting smaller and smaller.

I have a question for my fellow Challengers- what do you think or what have you seen as a better method of socializing on other blogs: constantly picking new blogs to comment on and making a point of going out to comment on new blogs every week OR selecting a limited amount of fellow blogs to comment on, and keep commenting on these select blogs?  Or is it a combination of both although at a certain point, it becomes physically impossible to post on your blog, comment on friend's blogs, and constantly find new blogs to comment on…and raise a family, go to work, and eat, etc.

I'd like to make a plan when it comes to posting on other's blogs but I'm not sure where my time would be best spent.  I'd appreciate any comments/ideas/experiences.  Thanks in advance!

Welcome to all the new challengers!

I second the question posed here by Small Business Billionaire. What is the best way to keep track of the blogs that you want to visit? And how much time should you spend networking vs. creating content? I'm starting to feel like a juggler with too many balls in the air. Surprised

Creating content is important and something you want to do consistently. Networking is important too but without content, your blog isn't going to grow or gain readership. Stick with a posting schedule that works for you where you won't sacrifice quality. It's better to post fewer times a week with higher quality articles versus posting all the time but with short, poor quality posts.

Thanks to all for being so warm and welcoming!

I would like to echo Kay and SBB's comments… I am currently signed up to so many blogs that I don't feel like I have time to write any content. I think the solution is to be brutal and just unsubscribe from all but maybe your favourite 10. The thing is I like them all so much! :)

In fact I just realised I forgot to make my "Joining the challenge" post… off to do that now!

Welcome to the challenge! Untemplater's advice is spot on I think. Content is the most important. It's tough to find the balance right now though between content and networking.

My advice is not to over think it. When I was in the challenge I thought I needed to keep a spreadsheet to track which blogs I commented on and such, and quickly learned trying to track that level of detail was a waste of time. It's encouraging to find fellow challengers blogs that you like as well as Member blogs that you enjoy reading and build relationships. After several visits you'll start to figure out which sites you enjoy reading the most and thus will have the most fun commenting on.

Using the Yakezie network page http://yakezie.com/personal-fi…..nce-blogs/ is a really helpful way to see what current Members have published too, so you can find articles you're interested in and get to know some of the Members.

That's good advice, thanks Sydney.  I'm glad you said that because I want to work as efficient as I can, yet still hold myself to a standard of publishing great stuff.  I think I'll use that as a gauge – when the to-do list gets too long, focus on my own content first.

Appreciate the help!

Congratulations Money Ahoy…do you see any difference?  Is there a bump in traffic under 200,000?  Do you see affiliate income jump?  I'm curious…

Thanks everyone for your support and stopping by.  I'm looking forward to checking out new blogs.  Small business the challenge is also under 100,000 as opposed to 200,000.  Writing posts that get people talking does help your Alexa ranking tremendously.  I've found that posts that deal with ideas as opposed to specific investment ideas get a lot more traffic.

SBB,

I have experienced an increase in traffic, but I think this was the cause of getting under 200,000, not a result.  Ad income has gone from $5 a month to about $30 – $35 a month now.  Also, I got a PR4, so I've got a couple sponsored posts where folks/companies are paying $150 – $200 a post.  Affiliate income from amazon product seems to be extremely variable.

The best part of the whole blogging experience is that it has really forced me to save money, get better about investing, and forced me to achieve my stretch goals.  I hope that it is also helping people to do the same.  The income is just a real small side benefit so far :-)

Hello Everyone,

I'm Michael and my site called Save-Invest-Grow.  I've recently found Yakezie and am excited to enter the challenge and hopefully connect with a lot of you!  According to Alexa, my current rank is 1,296,884.

My site talks about saving money, investing it wisely, and achieving financial and personal growth.  My background is in real estate, but I have a strong interest in all things personal finance.

I have some past experience writing on a financial blog, but recently started this new site.  I'm really impressed with how many great finance sites are out there.

I look forward to getting to know many of you!
