Hello Yakezie Challengers & Members!
I started blogging at Money Counselor on Nov 02, 2011, but I just accepted the Yakezie challenge March 13. I posted and tweeted my initial Alexa ranking: 1,641,999. Yikes, that's humbling! But it does get one motivated, yes? Somehow today I'm at 1,112,729. I can't imagine what I did (if anything!) to progress a half-million spots in a week, but I'll take it!
My business' tagline is 'money ideas for people who work for a living.' Though I write about all things personal finance, I tend to focus more on topics of interest (I hope!) to the middle class and people working to pay off debt, save more money, make ends meet, and as I say in my blog 'make better money choices.' I love to write, and I enjoy reading and learning more about money topics, so it's all good.
The blogging world is totally new to me; I've learned a ton the past few months, which I love. And I know enough now to know I have far more to learn! (like how to get the avatar I uploaded to Yakezie to show up in my profile ). I'm particularly ignorant about going about 'monetizing' Money Counselor. I've put my energy first into creating a bucket-full of content and building relationships & infrastructure; now I'm shifting gears a bit and spending time learning about generating revenue. I'm finding that some days are very uplifting and rewarding, and others are frustrating! (Such is life, right?) That's one reason I decided to get involved with Yakezie and take the challenge–community support!
Thanks,
Kurt

Hello again!
I meant to mention: Though I live now in British Columbia (Canada), I'm an American citizen/Canadian Permanent Resident. I haven't lived in Canada long (2+ years), so Money Counselor is focused on an American audience, though of course many posts are appropriate for citizens of all countries! I'm learning more about the pertinent laws, regulation, etc. in Canada so that Money Counselor can gradually become multi-national!
Thanks,
Kurt

Welcome and good luck! I just started the challenge last week myself and like you am fairly new to blogging. (I still don't know how to monetize my blog but I'm focusing on networking first)

Welcome aboard Money Counselor! Greetings from a fellow Canadian (well..I guess you're semi-Canadian ). And your ranking is fine! I started at 17 million..and am now up to 5 and a half million. And that's in 2 weeks..I'm sure the climb will be slower from here on in..

This is fun! I joined last week (with a score of 2 million) and my rank has gone up to 900,000 ALREADY! That makes me feel good. I think monetizing comes after your rank goes up and advertisers fall all over you because you are so popular. Ah, here's hoping, right? I do have a question — can people who are in the challenge add their blogs to the rodeo round-up things?

Hello fellow bloggers, I just joined the challenge (late to the game as usual) and added the badge to my site.
My blog, SoHelpMeTodd was started around 30 days ago with a Alexa rank debut of 20,187,952. Quite the splash, eh? ;)
At the 30 day mark today, my current ranking is 2,701,978, which although low is still encouraging in that I can see it steadily improve.
My blog is about personal finance, but I will also talk about a non-profit organization I'm working on currently, with the intent of documenting the litany of steps required to do so and creating an ebook to help others. My blog, along with the ebook, is primarily to support the non-profit and as such all profits (when there are profits natch) will be directed to start-up funding for the non-profit.
I did come up with an idea for a Plug-in a few weeks ago and just received delivery of that tool a couple of days ago. It's not the most elegantly designed, but it solves a problem that I've noticed several people struggle with. I promised a debut on one of the other member sites (bloggingawaydebt.com), but after it breaks there I'd be happy to share it with anyone interested. It installs as a Wordpress plug-in and you can use it as you see fit free of charge, modify it, whatever as I'll release all rights to it.
The only "payment" I'm requesting is a linkback to my site and a "promise" to create a least one post, tweet, or Facebook post when my non-profit site launches. It can be as simple as "Check out this cool new way to give", a review, or a comparison in favor of / against my site as it compares to others. My main concern is just to get the word out.
So, stay tuned for two things from me:
1) The opportunity to get a free plug-in for your site that takes the guesswork out of analyzing your monthly grocery budget allocation
2) A revolutionary way to give that transcends religious, political, and "labels" in general, makes every gift (no matter how small) effective, and gives you 100% confidence that your donation is doing exactly what you intended for it to do, all packaged up in a trendy and popular format that leverages the power of social media.
Other than that, I guess I don't have much to say……

Hi everyone! Nice to see some familiar faces in here :)
I'm 24, I live in beautiful San Diego, CA and I enjoy personal finance, fitness, shopping (on the cheap), and my dog. I have been blogging on From Shopping to Saving since October 2010. What started as a personal way to keep track of my spending and goal to pay off consumer debt has turned into a creative outlet for me to share my stories about my love for personal finance, condo hunting, and motivation to save and spend less. What I love the most about blogging is finding people with similar interests as me and forming friendships. My Alexa ranking is currently 781,572 and hopefully I can get it to under 200,000 in less than 6 months.
Good luck to everyone else participating!
